Answers for 4/12/24:
Dear Brothers and all USA Marists,
Thursday, April 18th, marked the 25th Anniversary of the Canonization of St. Marcellin Champagnat. For those of us who were lucky enough to be in St. Peter’s square on that memorable day, with more than one million pilgrims, it remains a very special and sacred moment in our lives. What I remember most from that day was that each of us attending were given a celebratory Champagnat scarf to wear to the canonization which became an incredible uniting symbol of pride and joy. All around the streets of Rome, we encountered fellow Marists wearing the same scarves. Although, we didn’t speak the same languages, we hugged and felt united as one Marist family. Celebrating Champagnat’s Dream and Legacy did not require us to speak the same language to feel so united because we each lived the same Mission in our own countries and realities.
That historical moment of Champagnat’s Canonization was a pivotal one for the growth and life of our USA Province. It was as a direct result of that experience that allowed our USA Province to launch our Marist Evangelization Programs such as Marist Youth, Sharing Our Call, and Sharing Our Mission. Over these past 25 years, many other powerful programs and experiences have been added and our USA Marist Mission continues to grow and deepen each and every year. I am grateful to so many of you who have helped and continue to grow Marcellin’s legacy and our USA Marist story.
With continued Easter Blessings and Gratitude,
— Br. Dan O'Riordan '85 | US Provincial
