Reflection: Feast of the Annunciation
Blessings on this Marial Feast Day, (March 25) which celebrates Mary’s “Yes” to the Angel Gabriel and her willingness to allow Jesus to come into our world through her.
As I reflect on this most transformative moment in our history, two simple thoughts come to my mind. First on how God was so willing to entrust our salvation to a young teenage girl. He firmly believed that His Hope, Joy, Love and only begotten Son would forever be gifted to us because of that one “Fiat.”
Marcellin, likewise, believed in the potential of how a few simple uneducated country young men might embrace his dream of helping him to create our Marist Institute. He believed in those first two recruits on January 2, 1817 and continued to believe in those young Marists, who built l’Hermitage 200 years ago. As we continue, to carry forth Champagnat’s dream and our Marist Mission, may we never forget to also trust in the potential of the many young people entrusted to our care. If God and Marcellin were both so willing to rest so much on the “Yes" of young people, may we aways be as daring to entrust future dreams upon the young of our time and circumstances.
