Sarah Kuehl ’04 Inducted into GCHSAA Hall of Fame, Shares Inspiring Presentation with Stanners
Congratulations to Sarah Kuehl ’04, who was inducted into the Girls Catholic High School Athletic Association (GCHSAA) Hall of Fame on April 11th! A top multi-sport athlete during her time at Molloy, Sarah played four years of soccer, four years of basketball, and ran track for two years. Sarah was also an exceptional student, as she would speak before her peers at their graduation ceremony in June 2004 as Molloy’s first-ever female Valedictorian. Each year, the GCHSAA recognizes outstanding women who not only made significant contributions to the league as student-athletes, but who also continue on to lead lives of purpose while making a positive impact on our world. Sarah was among nine other esteemed honorees at this year’s ceremony.
Earlier in the day, Sarah returned to Molloy to speak to Stanners about her career journey. After graduating from high school, she attended the US Naval Academy and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. She then served eight years Active Duty as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer, completing sea deployments on the USS Mesa Verde and USS Enterprise as well as tours supporting the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. European Command Joint Logistics. Later, in search of a life change, Sarah joined JPMorgan Chase, and is now the Program Director supporting Chase Wealth Management Investment Operations! She continues to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Active Reserves at the Washington DC Navy Yard.
To end her presentation, Sarah answered an array of questions from students, including why she chose to attend the Naval Academy, what she experienced during Active Duty, how she decided to apply to JPMorgan Chase, and what it means to be a leader.
Congratulations Sarah, and thank you for taking the time to come and speak to our students! Congratulations to all this year’s GCHSAA Hall of Fame inductees.

On Saturday, March 23rd, twelve Stanners and moderator Ms. Hipkin attended the Lab MUNC Model UN conference at the NYC Lab School in Manhattan. Students listened to a talk from a UN historian and then spent the day competing in committees on a variety of topics to practice their public speaking, diplomacy, and research skills with students from ten other local high schools. Students Plan Updates to St. Ann’s Courtyard Thanks to Grant
Recently, members of the Laudato Si group received a $2,000 grant from the Marist US Province to build a garden in the Molloy’s St. Ann’s Courtyard. Laudato Si is Pope Francis’ 2015 Encyclical on the moral responsibility humans have to care for the environment and the inseparable relationship between nature and humanity.
Working on this proposal for the past few months, Molloy students have planned four raised garden beds for vegetables and flowers, a drip irrigation system, solar path lighting, a bird bath with a solar powered pump, lots of perennials that will grow and flower each year, and a peace pole.
“We are very grateful to the US Province for supplying the grant and anticipate the garden’s completion by the end of the school year,” said Mr. Richard Costa, Molloy’s Director of Campus Ministry & Marist Mission.
Thank you to Campus Ministry for providing information for this story.
Heather Green-Wresch Presented with Service Award
Congratulations to Ms. Heather Green-Wresch for receiving the Joan Casazzone Service Award at the GCHSAA Hall of Fame ceremony on April 11th! The award is named in memory of Joan Casazzone, former coach, administrator, and President of the GCHSAA. Ms. Green-Wresch is coach of Molloy’s girls and boys swim teams at Molloy, leading this year’s girls team to an undefeated season while winning Coach of the Year as well! She is one of five coaches to receive the award this year. Go Heather!
Molloy’s Newest Team: Boys Varsity Lacrosse!
Molloy is always considering ways to expand its athletics program to meet the interests of its current students. This year, for the first time, Molloy has introduced Boys Varsity Lacrosse! Coached by Mr. Joe Beaudet with the help of Mr. Chris Adamek, the team roster consists of 33 players from all four class years.
The idea to create a boys lacrosse team first popped up earlier this school year. Students, administration, and the athletics department all felt that there was enough interest and talent to officially create the team and compete in the CHSAA B Division. The team mostly plays within this division against four other schools in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocese. Although new, Mr. Beaudet has high hopes for the players on his team. “I think considering that about 90% of the players had never played lacrosse before,” says Mr. Beaudet, “to be considered competitive is a success. The amount of development and progress from December to now is huge.”
The boys are showing high levels of enthusiasm for the season, and are even more excited to play most of their home games at St. John’s University! Mr. Beaudet says he and the boys feel; “fortunate to play on that field, considering St. John’s has a Division 1 men’s lacrosse team.” The team especially enjoys having fellow Stanners come out and support them on game days, so make sure to go and cheer on Molloy’s newest team!
A great time was had by all at Stanner March Madness on March 28th! Proceeds from the happy hour event, held at Austin Ale House, supported the Curran Fund, benefiting future students entering Molloy. Thank you to everyone who attended, the Athletics Department, and a big thank you to NBA legend Kenny Anderson ’89 (@mrchibb) for coming out and supporting the event, the Curran Fund, and Molloy!
