Mary, Our Good Mother

When I reflect upon the first Marist Brothers’ community coming together at LaValla, I see great poverty and simplicity, much uncertainty about the future, and plentiful challenges, including surroundings where many of the young are uncatechized and even unevangelized. I am conscious of many parallels with our Marist Sisters’ first community in Cerdon a few years later, in their poor lodgings over a horse’s stable. I also perceive in both situations, in spite of difficulties, deep joy and peace among people who did not choose to live with one another.

What motivated them? Certainly the compelling leadership of the founders themselves, awareness of the crying needs surrounding them, a sense of being called, and love for Jesus and Mary are key influences.

This month, you are invited to consider your life in community with fresh eyes. We have much uncertainty about the future and share some of the same challenges as our founding members. Ask for a renewal of your sense of mission and awareness of God’s call in the situation where you are, and walk with Jesus and Mary each day. Ponder with Mary, our Good Mother!

Reflection Questions: What qualities of Mary, our Good Mother, do you most identify with as a Marist? In which qualities do you need to grow?

The Fund For Molloy is Archbishop Molloy High School’s annual giving campaign. The Fund is a vital part of the School’s finances. Tuition alone does not account for the full costs associated with receiving a Stanner education. To keep tuition affordable and accessible for all, income from Molloy’s endowments and The Fund For Molloy make up the difference. Each year, alumni, parents and friends make gifts that have a meaningful impact on the school’s budget. For over 122 years we have relied on our community to help fulfill our educational mission. We are grateful to all who have stepped up for Stanner High in the past and hope you will continue to support Molloy.

Every gift to The Fund For Molloy, whatever its size, makes a valuable and immediate difference for the school and its students. Contact alumni@molloyhs.org to learn about ways to give or make your gift online today.

The Stanner Alumni Center works with alumni to host events, spread news and promote Stanner businesses. If you have a personal or professional accomplishment to your credit, or any Molloy or alumni news that you would like us to include in The Beehive, please share it! We hope you will always keep us updated on your latest Stanner stories. Email alumni@molloyhs.org.
