DOWNLOAD THE 2013-14 ANNUAL REPORT<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n PRESS RELEASE: Briarwood, NY (July 2015) <\/strong>\u2013 Molloy President Richard Karsten has named Darius Penikas as the school\u2019s Principal effective August 1, 2015. He succeeds Br. Thomas Schady, FMS. In April, the new Marist Provincial Br. Patrick McNamara announced the appointment of Br. Thomas Schady as Director of Marist Education working with all of the Marist Schools in the United States.<\/p>\n Most recently Mr. Penikas was the Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Instruction & Student Activities as well as the Summer Principal of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip. Earlier in his career Mr. Penikas was Dean, teacher and coach at St. John\u2019s Preparatory High School and West Hempstead High School.<\/p>\n According to Archbishop Molloy President Richard Karsten, \u201cMr. Penikas has a proven track record in Catholic education as a teacher, coach and administrator. He will be a great asset to lead our exceptional faculty and to engage our community at large.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe search process was designed to include the leadership perspective of the Marist Brothers, School Board Members, Administration, Faculty and Staff,\u201d said Marist Provincial Br. Patrick McNamara. \u201cIn the coming months, Marist and school leadership will work in concert to assure a smooth transition.\u201d<\/p>\n In June, Br. Thomas expressed his thanks to Molloy and its community. \u201cWorking at Molloy has been a most rewarding experience. The message and mission of the Marist Brothers is alive and well here,\u201d said Br. Thomas. \u201cMolloy has the best students of any school I\u2019ve been associated with. They are generous with their time, spirited, and ambitious. This comes from the guidance and direction of their teachers, coaches, counselors, and my fellow administrators.\u201d Looking ahead, Br. Thomas looks forward to remaining engaged with the Molloy community. \u201cI am looking forward to supporting my Marist administrative team and assisting their vision of new beginnings for the province. I plan to make myself available to Molloy as a resource to help however my expertise is most needed.\u201d<\/p>\n This summer, Br. Pat Hogan has been busy working up at Esopus, tending to the needs of the disadvantaged individuals at several special camps. Br. Pat deeply appreciates taking part in these kinds of service experiences. \u201cI\u2019ve been working at camps for needy children and young adults at Esopus since 1973. I get more satisfaction out of these experiences than I give, to be honest. Every time I work with the campers, I realize how lucky I am as an individual to be able to go to the camp. I also realize it is an important part of my ministry, but I am personally driven to bring young people to the camps and give them this great experience of service. They might be unsure at first, but after working with the campers they gain great perspective and learn how fortunate they are in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n The goals of the Brother Patrick Hogan Fund are:<\/p>\n Mr. & Mrs. Matteini have also announced a special gift match challenge in support of the Brother Patrick Hogan Fund. <\/a>In June, Molloy announced the establishment of the Brother Patrick Hogan Fund<\/strong> thanks to the generosity of Mr. & Mrs. Stephen \u201871 and Linda Matteini<\/strong>. Br. Pat, an inspirational teacher, coach, and guidance counselor at Molloy for over 50 years, has dedicated his life to educating young people in mind, body, and spirit. \u201cBeing a Marist Brother gives me the opportunity to interact with young people, to motivate them to do extraordinary things in their lives,\u201d said Br. Pat. \u201cIt\u2019s a life that I chose and have never regretted. The influence I may have on kids is often returned as they have a profound influence on me too. Renovation of Student Lockers Part of Several Summer Improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/a>There\u2019s always something going on here at Molloy \u2013 even during the dog days of summer! This month, student lockers throughout the building are undergoing work to restore and revitalize their look and functionality. Each locker is being improved with a fresh coat of electrostatic paint (inside and out) as well as with refurbished hardware. The third floor lockers in particular will offer a new aesthetic as they have been painted a beautiful light shade of blue. Other lockers around the building will feature a color similar to the previous look, but the new paint is bit brighter with a glossier sheen. In addition to the lockers, several classrooms are seeing improvements with new electrical, acoustic drop ceiling tiles, and energy-efficient LED lights. Later this summer the roof above the Curran gym will be replaced, while the parking lot will receive lighting and paint upgrades, making it a brighter, safer lot. Much of the work around the building this summer has been made possible by the generosity of our students and their families in support of the 2014 Walkathon, as well as our alumni community through their continued charity to The Fund For Molloy. \nLacrosse Alumni Participate in Fundraiser for Veterans<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/a>A group of alumni who previously played Varsity lacrosse at Molloy recently participated in Long Island\u2019s \u201cShootout for Soldiers\u201d event on July 17th. Eight Stanner alumni, including five from the Class of 2015, joined head coach Alison Scalice for the event. They took to the field at Field of Dreams Park in Massapequa at 2:00am (you heard that right) to participate in the challenging 24 hour lacrosse tournament. Proceeds from the event benefited the Wounded Warrior Project and several other Veterans organizations. Scalice was fortunate to play with some of her own former teammates as well. \u201cI got to combine all of my lacrosse worlds, playing at 2am with some of the girls I\u2019ve coached at Molloy and at 4am with the girls I have grown up playing the game with, and all for an amazing cause,\u201d said Scalice. \nJack Curran Memorial Camps in Full Swing<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/a>Each summer, Molloy\u2019s Jack Curran Memorial basketball and baseball camps offer a great opportunity for young boys and girls to get daily exercise while having fun and making new friends. The instruction these young athletes receive comes from several of Molloy\u2019s hard-working coaches as well as young alumni looking to lend their own experience and advice. \u201cI\u2019m very pleased with the camps so far this summer,\u201d said Athletic Director Mike McCleary, who is the main organizer of the camps. \u201cWe\u2019ve already had several hundred kids in the camps to this point, and I expect a nice number of walk-ups when our next baseball camp begins next week.\u201d For more information, visit www.jackcurrancamps.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/h2>\n

<\/a>Zachary Kurre \u201915<\/strong> is among seven students from Queens to be accepted into U.S. service academies. He was nominated by Congresswoman Grace Meng. An outstanding student at Molloy, Zach was also a member of the Stanner track & field team for four years. U.S. service academies typically look for candidates who exhibit a mix of strong academics and athletics as well as those who show a propensity for getting involved through extracurricular activities. We are saddened to share the passing of Virginia Flood<\/strong>, mother of Charles Flood \u201968. Please keep Mrs. Flood and her family in your thoughts and prayers.<\/p>\nWe are saddened to share the passing of Bernadette Tully Mallon<\/strong>, sister of Terence Tully \u201982 and wife of Christopher Mallon \u201982. \u2018Bernadette faced her battle with ovarian cancer with grace, dignity and a positive attitude which was an inspiration to everyone who knew her,\u201d said Terence. \u201cWith her husband Christopher at her side, she faced long and arduous treatments for over six years. They were willing to do anything to beat the cancer. Bernadette had a singular goal: to be there for her five children Robert (20), Caili Rose (20), Liam (17), Sean (15), and Aedan (13).\u201d Please keep Bernadette and her family in your thoughts and prayers.<\/p>\nIt is with sadness that we share the passing of Josephine Koubek<\/strong>, mother of Robert \u201984 and Michael \u201986.
