<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nAttention men’s soccer alumni! You’re invited to join us on Saturday, April 16th as Molloy celebrates 40 years of its historic men’s soccer program. Coach Andy Kostel and other members of the coaching staff through the years will be in attendance, and they hope to see you there. We would also like to have alumni representatives from our many championship teams as well! The event will include alumni games (weather permitting, flat shoes only), a cocktail reception, and a formal dinner \u2013 all right here at Molloy.<\/span> Reserve your spot and be a part of this memorable night! We look forward to seeing you.<\/p>\n Molloy invites its Stanner Players alumni and their parents to a light reception prior to the start of this year’s spring show on Friday, April 15th. Guests will enjoy small bites, beverages and other refreshments as well as the opportunity to catch up and reminisce. The cost of each admission will include a VIP ticket to the Stanner Players performance later that evening. A limited number of tickets will be available.<\/em> Please circle April 15th on your calendar and check out our next Beehive for more details.<\/p>\n Senior track & field teammates Kieran Rock <\/strong>(2:02), Andrew Garabito <\/strong>(1:55.7), Alex Goldberg <\/strong>(2:01), and Michael Reddy <\/strong>(1:55.7) made history on February 20th at the 108th annual Millrose Games by helping Molloy win the Catholic High School\/Boys George T. Eastman CHSAA 4x800m Relay for the first time in over 30 years. With an amazing combined time of 7:55.57 the team established themselves as a legit force in the CHSAA and on a national scale. Andrew and Michael will be joined by Oluwatomide Alao ’17<\/strong>, Shauna D’Arcy ’17<\/strong>, Sarah Kowpak ’16<\/strong>, and Petra Stiglmayer ’16<\/strong> as they compete this coming weekend at the New York State Championship Track & Field meet in Ithaca. National Championships take place the following weekend.<\/p>\n WATCH THE FULL 4X800M RELAY RACE<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n In other track and field news, Molloy record holder Kathleen Woods \u201912 <\/strong>(pictured overcoming a wet track during the steeplechase back in her Molloy days<\/em>) has penned an article for Women\u2019s Running magazine. The article, titled What is VO2 Max And How Can It Help Your Training<\/em>, is published online here:<\/p>\n Kathleen Woods Women\u2019s Running Article<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Molloy\u2019s Science Olympiad Team competed in the Regional Event at Grover Cleveland High School on February 6th. Impressive talent representing high schools from all across New York City face off at this annual competition, which features numerous tough events. This year\u2019s events included Anatomy & Physiology, Experimental Design, Fossils, Green Generation, Optics, Robot Arm, and Wright Stuff (descriptions of these and other Science Olympiad events can be found HERE<\/a><\/em>). Molloy placed 11th out of 40 schools, which was tops among all participating Catholic schools. In addition, Molloy\u2019s individual team members earned a number of honors for their excellent work and top 10 finishes. (Pictured: Students test their presentations before the competition<\/em>)<\/p>\n \u201cWe are proud of this year\u2019s team and what they achieved,\u201d said Mr. Attard, teacher and Science Olympiad moderator. \u201cMr. Nadeau and I will explore ways we can \u2018step up\u2019 our game during the offseason. In more recent years, Science Olympiad has expanded tremendously and, thus, it is becoming even more competitive in the NYC region.\u201d Mr. Attard indicated it will be important to continually look for ways to improve team and individual performances year to year in order to rank among other top schools including Townsend Harris, Stuyvesant, Benjamin Cordozo, and others.<\/p>\n The New York Blood Center (NYBC) will visit Molloy on Tuesday, March 22nd as Stanner High hosts its annual Blood Drive. The NYBC wants you to know that just one person\u2019s donation can help save up to three lives. Community hospitals are in need, and the NYBC and Molloy encourage you to share this lifesaving gift. Students and parents are encouraged to participate in this year\u2019s Blood Drive<\/strong>. To be eligible, students must bring their ID with a signature or photo. Minimum weight required is 110 lbs, while for students and adults the suggested age range is 16 to 75 (16 year old donors must have parental permission. Over Age 76 need doctor\u2019s note<\/em>). We asked a few of our seniors who have made early college decisions to sport their new university hoodies in a group photo in front of Stanner High. Our community responded with over 400 “likes”, 20 comments, and 16 shares. What makes these numbers impressive is that they worked together to help this photo reach over 12,000 different people. That is over eight times the number of students at Molloy! The participation of our community is important to us, and we encourage everyone to continue to drive the conversation on social media and help us spread the good news happening here at Molloy everyday. Congratulations once again to these and all members of the Class of 2016 on winning acceptance to the most competitive colleges in the country. In John\u2019s words:<\/p>\n On January 14, 2016, in the cozy confines of Dee\u2019s of Forest Hills, in true \u201cStanner Spirit\u201d, the Class of 1977 once again managed to accomplish the near impossible. Over twenty classmates, many former track team members, were joined by Mr. Tony Perrone<\/strong> and other friends to celebrate and remember their amazing four years at Archbishop Molloy High School. Although some of last year\u2019s attendees to a similar reunion could not make it this year, we were lucky to have some new Stanners join us for what will hopefully be an annual tradition. Many of us picked up conversations like it was yesterday, when we walked aimlessly (and purposefully) through the halls on Manton Street. Old friendships were reignited, and it was clear from the smiles, laughter, and conversations that the values which were taught at Molloy still shine brightly in our lives.<\/p>\n To quote John Corrigan \u201877<\/strong>, \u201cIn the end Molloy is not just the building, or just the teachers, or the courses, or the education, or the athletics…WE are all Molloy. The 400 or so boys that became men there, who shared our hopes, our fears, and our dreams \u2013 and who forged bonds that transcended the years now decades later \u2013 are what make Molloy great. That was what it was for me, but I know many others feel the same. Alongside being a loving and faithful husband and a dedicated father, I count being a Stanner as one of my three proudest accomplishments in my life.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n Molloy has meant so much to each of us in different ways, and when we come together it\u2019s amazing to see the spirit and Marist charism at work among us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n To honor Brian\u2019s memory, family, friends, and loved ones have established The Brian Foley \u201975 Memorial Scholarship<\/strong> at Archbishop Molloy High School. Molloy Wins First 4x800m Relay at Millrose Games in 30 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n
<\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>Many prolific athletes have competed at Millrose Games in its history, including over 200 athletes that share the distinction of being both Millrose Games and Olympic Champions. Millrose Games continued its tradition of showcasing the potential future elites of track & field with this incredible win by our Stanners. Coach Frank Gambino \u201974<\/strong> was very pleased with the win. \u201cWe came close to winning a lot of meets this year, but to win a big one like this is a real shot in the arm,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt definitely psyched us up for the outdoor season.\u201d Coach Gambino also credited his fellow coaches for their work. \u201cKawan Lovelace \u201994 <\/strong>provided excellent points in weightlifting and form, Br. Bob Andrews<\/strong> and myself worked hard on distance training, and Craig Katinas \u201993 <\/strong>worked with these and other runners over the summer. \nMr. Diego Rodriguez \u201883 Visits Molloy<\/strong><\/h3>\n
<\/a>Students and faculty were delighted last week by a visit from Mr. Diego Rodriguez \u201983<\/strong>, who currently serves as the Assistant Director In-Charge for the FBI’s New York Division. Mr. Rodriguez took time out of his busy schedule to tour his alma mater and guest lecture during Mr. Diorio’s Government classes. He shared notes from his impressive career and discussed the nature of working for the US Government as an FBI administrator in the current political climate. Mr. Rodriguez also distributed information about careers with the FBI, emphasizing the numerous and diverse administrative roles that are essential to making every day at the Bureau run smoothly. Per his associate in a follow up communication, Mr. Rodriguez was said to have greatly enjoyed his visit, and he was also impressed with the questions and comments presented to him by students during several Q&A sessions. We extend our sincerest thanks to Mr. Rodriguez for spending time with our students and faculty! <\/a>Robert White \u201959 <\/strong>has published his latest book. The Trip: All the Way, in my Chevrolet <\/em>is on sale now on Amazon.com<\/a> in print and for Kindle. The book details the epic road trip Robert embarked on in 1969. Beginning in the arctic Alaskan landscape and finishing up deep in the Straights of Magellan in southern Chile, Robert logged over 25,000 miles while passing through over a dozen countries. \u201cI went north to south all that way before there were even roads on the route. It was me and my 1962 Chevy pickup from the Artic Circle to the southernmost place on Earth that people live, across the Straits of Magellan to Ushuaia on Tierra Del Fuego,\u201d said Robert of the trip. \u201cI became a man by the end, having experienced many once in a lifetime events. All I had was my youthful training at St. Ann’s and lots of luck.\u201d The Stanner Alumni Center congratulates Robert on his work and encourages alumni to check out a multiple page preview provided by Amazon (see link above). \n<\/a>Katie Wenzler \u201914<\/strong> is among 24 other outstanding athletes representing St. Joseph\u2019s College to be named to the Skyline Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. According to a press release, the academic honor roll \u201cdistinguishes student-athletes in the league who compiled a 3.3 GPA during the fall semester while competing in any of the conference\u2019s seven fall sports.\u201d Skyline Conference Commissioner Linda Bruno stated that recognized student-athletes \u201cexemplify the development and dedication to their studies and their sports. I am proud to recognize these bright young men and women, whose academic performance is a shining example and in line with the NCAA Division III Philosophy statement.\u201d Katie was recognized for both Women\u2019s Tennis and Women\u2019s Cross Country. | Katie\u2019s Bio Page<\/a> (Photo courtesy of St. Joseph’s College<\/em>)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>Molloy was deeply saddened earlier this week to report the passing of Brian Foley \u201975<\/strong>, husband of Lisa, father of Melissa Foley \u201913 and Jennifer Foley \u201913. Brian passed away after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and friend to many within the Stanner community. During his time at Molloy, Brian was a shining example of our school motto \u201cNot for school but for life\u201d as a hard working student. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Poster Club, Venture, and the award winning school newspaper, \u201cThe Stanner\u201d. Brian’s curiosity for learning and creativity continued throughout his lifetime, as seen in his art, his writing, and his involvement in many different pursuits. He had a wonderful way of inspiring and engaging others to explore and share their passions as well, and he was always at the heart of so many rich and diverse exchanges of ideas and life experiences.<\/p>\n We are saddened to share the passing of Carolyn L. Collins<\/strong>, wife of Michael J. Collins ’58. She is survived by husband Michael, her two children, Laura and Kenneth, and four grandsons, Louis, Justin, Kyle, and Mason. Please pray for Carolyn and the Collins family.
