Molloy alumni will be looking to defend their first place finish in the very same race just one year ago (<em>pictured right<\/em>). Those in attendance enjoyed German-style brews and a delicious dinner catered by <strong>Mike McGuire \u201981<\/strong> and our friends at Trinity Restaurant &amp; Bar of Floral Park. Dinner included bratwurst, tender pork loin, large salted pretzels, and more. At least six decades of Stanners were represented at Molloy Oktoberfest (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s).<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event was also the first to highlight one of Molloy\u2019s many Named Scholarships. Proceeds from Molloy Oktoberfest 2018 supported the <strong>Brother Ron Marcellin Memorial Scholarship<\/strong>. Br. Ron, Class of 1952, was one of the most influential educators and counselors in St. Ann\u2019s \/ Molloy history. His tireless work with our SMILE and counseling programs continues to inspire the efforts of today\u2019s counselors. In addition, Br. Ron\u2019s ability to help every student feel comfortable and confident in themselves has led those he helped to create a lasting legacy through his scholarship. The Br. Ron Marcellin Memorial Scholarship provides need-based financial assistance to students and their families who are experiencing extraordinary circumstances. Guests of this year\u2019s Oktoberfest can be assured that their participation will directly helped present and future Stanners in need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s Molloy Oktoberfest was a great experience,\u201d said Alumni Communications Director <strong>Joe Sommo \u201903<\/strong>. \u201cDinner was delicious, and we had a lot of fun raffling off some interesting prizes. On behalf of the Stanner Alumni Center, I\u2019d like to thank everyone who attended the event. height=\"349\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, October 14th, Molloy hosted its fall Open House for prospective students and their families. This important day gives Molloy\u2019s faculty and students an opportunity to showcase everything that makes our school special; from every academic program, to every athletic team, extracurricular club, and service organization. Families traveled from all corners of New York City and Long Island to tour Molloy\u2019s six acre campus. Our alumni and parent volunteers served as greeters, while our enthusiastic students volunteered as greeters, speakers, and tour guides. Current seniors have an opportunity to complete more AP courses and earn a higher level AP Scholar Award. They are the #3 seed entering playoffs. The team was also crowned champion of the Metropolitan HS Tournament.<\/li>\n<li>JV Volleyball&nbsp;has a winning record of 7-5 in B\/Q play and is the #3 seed entering playoffs.<\/li>\n<li>Girls Tennis finished a stellar&nbsp;11-1 and reached the finals of the B\/Q Playoffs. Freshman <strong>Kaitlyn Mendoza \u201822<\/strong> won the CHSAA Singles Championship, meaning she was the overall winner in Brooklyn\/Queens, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Kaitlyn will represent the CHSAA in the State Championship Tournament.<\/li>\n<li>Girls Swimming is off to an early 1-0.<\/li>\n<li>Boys Freshman Swimming are looking to rebound from an 0-2 start.<\/li>\n<li>Varsity Bowling&nbsp;are currently riding high at 3-1.<\/li>\n<li>JV Bowling is looking to rebound from a 1-3 start.<\/li>\n<li>In Track &amp; Field, Molloy runners are training for the Sectionals on 10\/27 and the Inter-sectionals on 11\/10. Starting off, the freshmen raced without their best runner, <strong>Jeremiah Dorsey \u201822<\/strong>, due to illness. The freshman still came in a strong in eleventh place with a score of 281 points. <strong>Samir Patel \u201822<\/strong> finished first for the Molloy freshmen with a time of 9:14, and freshman <strong>Alex Filipkowski \u201822<\/strong> finished right behind Patel with a time of 9:15. The varsity boys \u201cA\u201d team didn\u2019t run this meet due to working out in preparation for the Manhattan College Invitational meet. The varsity boys \u201cB\u201d team did very well despite the injury of junior <strong>Michael Hubert \u201821<\/strong>. They finished in thirty-eighth place with a score 1,058 points. <strong>Thomas Anich<\/strong> <strong>\u201921<\/strong> was the first varsity boy to finish with a time of 19:30. On Columbus Day the Stanners headed up to Van Cortlandt Park for a hard workout on the course in readying themselves for the Manhattan Invitational meet.<\/p>\n<p>The Manhattan Invitational cross country meet is the largest meet on the east coast and took place on Saturday, October 13th at Van Cortlandt Park. The freshmen they came in sixteenth place with a score of 463 points. JV did very well finishing in sixth place out of twenty-nine teams with a score of 216 points. Key performances by junior <strong>Charles Stravalle<\/strong> <strong>\u201920<\/strong> placing twelfth in the race with a time of 14:27 and senior <strong>Christopher Tracy \u201819<\/strong> placing nineteenth with a time of 14:36 propelled the Stanners to a sixth place finish. The varsity boys qualified for the eastern states championship race, which had the fastest runners on the east coast all competing in one race. The varsity boys finished in nineteenth with a score of 544 points. The Stanners\u2019 best runner, <strong>James Loeffel \u201919<\/strong>, ran a time of 13:08 and placed forty-sixth, which goes to show how competitive this race was.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, October 10th, the sophomore boys competed in the Brooklyn\/Queens championship meet at Van Cortlandt Park. The whole team went to Van Cortlandt to get in a good workout before the Manhattan Invitational meet on Saturday and to also cheer on the sophomores. The sophomore boys did extremely well as they came in first with nineteen points. Their top five runners placed first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
