The 38th Annual Jim Kinnier Stanner Golf Classic is just days away! Each year, the Classic welcomes alumni, family members, corporate sponsors, and friends for a great day out on the links. It isn’t just a fun day of golf \u2013 since 1987, the Classic has raised over $3 million in support of Molloy’s scholarship program. The scholarships provided as a result of this event have helped countless students who might otherwise have been unable to attend Molloy. We deeply appreciate the generosity of all golfers, sponsors, and volunteers over the past nearly 40 years!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s outing will welcome golfers to four private courses on Long Island: North Hills Country Club, North Hempstead Country Club, Lake Success Golf Club, and Wheatley Hills Golf Club. The Classic is expected to host well over 400 total golfers, which is a record showing of support from our extended Molloy family. He is a proud Stanner who cherishes the education he received in and out of the classroom at Molloy, especially on the baseball field under the tutelage of the legendary late Coach Jack Curran. Mike has also been an avid volunteer on our Golf Board since 2018. In addition, congratulations to our Honorary Chair, Robert O\u2019Donohue \u201894<\/strong>. Serving as Project Executive at Consigli Construction, Rob is also a proud Stanner who wears his decades-long bond with our school on his sleeve. Stanners Present Research at<\/strong> Annual<\/strong> Science Symposium<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, May 2nd, Stanner scientists presented their research at Molloy\u2019s annual Science Research Symposium! Members of the Science Research Program shared their findings with peers, faculty, staff, and family, all in front of detailed displays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Science Research Program, run by Ms. Mary Mallia<\/strong>, is a three-year program where students are able to learn and conduct original research on any topic of their choosing. Sophomore students focus on literature reviews, juniors work with a mentor to discover and plan their own project, and seniors perform their own research based on the work they did the year before. This year went \u201cexcellently,\u201d according to Ms. Mallia! She said she was \u201cso impressed with the presentations of the students this year,\u201d and that \u201calthough logistically there are some things that could be fixed, she couldn\u2019t be happier with the actual work of the Stanners!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophomore Elizabeth Canty \u201826<\/strong> joined the program because she has \u201calways had a passion for science,\u201d and that \u201cgetting experience in the field is so important, especially as a high schooler, and Science Research gave me the opportunity to study a real-world experiment.\u201d Junior Mackenzie Clarke \u201825<\/strong> said that this year was \u201call about finding a mentor and establishing the basis for her project,\u201d entitled Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer. She said that she was \u201cinterested in hands-on lab work,\u201d and she\u2019s \u201cexcited that the project will allow me to work in NYU\u2019s labs over the summer.\u201d Seniors Brianna Robinson \u201824<\/strong> and Ashmit Shivrattan \u201824<\/strong> conducted their own research on topics that interested them. Brianna said working with her mentor, Dr. Jonathan Mangar<\/strong> ’09<\/strong>, helped her so much throughout the experience, and that conducting research herself taught her so much about looking at things through \u201ca different lens.\u201d Ashmit\u2019s presentation on the relationship between stress levels and using night guards allowed him to work within a dental office, and he says that he\u2019s interested in furthering his research! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Molloy hosted its annual Spring Concerts! Tuesday evening showcased the talents of our Freshman Chorus, Guitar Ensemble, and Concert Band. Wednesday night highlighted the Junior\/Senior Chorus, String Ensemble, and the MultiQuire featuring students from Fordham Prep, St. Catherine Academy, and Molloy. The first night featured songs from around the world, while Broadway hits were heard the second night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Molloy Earns Top 20 Ranking at “VE” Trade Show<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtual Enterprise (VE) is a full-year senior course that teaches students how to create and run their own business. In April, one of Molloy\u2019s VE Firms made the top 20 at the VE Trade Show at the Javits Center! The show hosted 250 firms made up of over 4000 students from all over the country, as well as some from different parts of the globe! Mr. Touzin, Molloy\u2019s VE teacher, explained that \u201cthe trade show was a live experience where students got to pitch their product or service and get people to virtually \u2018buy\u2019 from them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the 250 firms, 30 of them were acknowledged with an award; ten received gold, ten silver, and ten bronze. Job Oracle, one of Molloy\u2019s VE firms, earned a silver award, placing them in the top 20! The Virtual Enterprise program at Molloy continues to grow every year, and we are excited to highlight the hard work and tenacity of our student entrepreneurs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every Easter break, Molloy takes a group of students on educational adventures around the world! Designed by Ms. Dorothy DeNoto <\/strong>and planned through the travel company Passports, the trip always includes a visit to multiple countries and is packed with entries to museums, castles, shows, cathedrals, and more! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the adventure took Stanners to Scandinavia, with stops in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Over a period of 13 days, 41 students and five chaperones visited the cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen, and Stockhold, with pit stops in \u00c5l and Fl\u00e5m. From a boat ride through the Fjords to singing on stage in the ABBA museum, the trip was truly once in a lifetime!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. DeNoto is a firm believer of traveling the world and broadening your horizons. She exclaims that \u201cthe enlightenment that shows in the students\u2019 eyes as they experience cultures through new lenses is astounding!\u201d Junior Alyssa Bisono \u201825<\/strong> thought the trip was \u201ctruly beautiful and breathtaking.\u201d She continued, \u201cGoing to the Scandinavian countries provided a great opportunity to take a step back from the fast paced life (and craziness of junior year) and just be present in the moment and appreciate the beautiful, natural scenery, especially the Fjords!\u201d Senior Christopher Flynn \u201824<\/strong> said the trip was \u201cunforgettable,\u201d and that \u201che made a lot of great memories and built upon relationships with friends and family.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the trip, Ms. DeNoto told students that \u201cthe world is their oyster,\u201d and encouraged them to \u201ccontinue to travel and seek pearls of wisdom wherever their journey takes them!\u201d All of her educational trips are meant to be just the beginning of a lifelong journey of travel and adventure, and we hope the students continue to appreciate the full world around them! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, May 3rd, New York State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. ’82<\/strong> visited Molloy to meet and congratulate Stanner athletes and coaches who were crowned City or State Champions this year! Teams who received certificates from the Senator’s office included Girls Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Tennis, and Varsity Bowling. Senator Addabbo. Recognition was also given to MJ Sim Jr. ’27<\/strong>, a freshman who became Molloy’s first ever State Champion in bowling, as well as our Varsity Track & Field All-Americans. Molloy\u2019s Pre-Med Career Club welcomed back alumni Nicole Guerrero \u201804<\/strong>, Christa Ciuffo \u201811<\/strong>, and Benedict Harvey \u201814<\/strong> for a Pre-Med Panel! Open to all students, the panel was an opportunity to learn more about the lives of nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and medical students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicole was a member of Molloy\u2019s first co-ed class. She holds a BS from Quinnipiac University, a BSN from Pace University, and an MSN in Nursing Clinical Systems Leadership from the University of Arizona. She is currently a Quality Management Specialist and Administrator on Call at the NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. Nicole has experience in children and adolescent psychiatry, adult telemetry psychiatry, heart failure, and cardiothoracic surgery, and is certified as a Nurse Executive-Advanced and a Progressive Care Nurse. Christa attended Adelphi University for her bachelor\u2019s degree, then pursued a Master\u2019s degree as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Hofstra. She is currently in pursuit of a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Hofstra, while also working in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit at North Shore University Hospital. Benedict pursued a degree in Biological Sciences at Cornell University with an emphasis on Neurobiology and Population Health, then spent two years working as a Diversity Programs Assistant at Weill Cornell Medicine. There, he worked for a 2.7 million dollar grant geared toward increasing representation in medicine across all levels of trainees. He is currently a few weeks away from graduating Weill Cornell Medical School (where he is the Vice President for Black and Latino Men in Medicine), and will begin his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Howard University Hospital in July! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panelists answered student questions regarding financing nursing\/medical school, the importance of medical professionals, the length of training for each career, work\/life balance, class selection, and more. Nicole shared that there are \u201cso many options for a career in medicine, especially in the nursing field,\u201d and that she loves it because \u201cyou get to see the benefits of what you\u2019re doing every day.\u201d Christa agreed that there are so many routes to take as a nurse, and so \u201cshe didn\u2019t feel stuck, but could transition and learn as much as she wanted.\u201d Benedict highlighted that the path to a career in medicine is \u201cnot always linear,\u201d and that students should be immersed in the journey rather than be fixated on the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The William F. DiPietra Foundation was created by Helen DiPietra, in honor of her late son William, a proud Stanner from the Class of 1994 that had a passion for media arts. William passed away in 2017, and so to honor his legacy, Helen established awards that she asked to be given out at institutions that were a part of William\u2019s life, including his alma mater, Molloy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Molloy participated in the foundation\u2019s Fifth Annual Photography Exhibition, with members of the Photography Club submitting photos based on a theme of their choosing.13 students participated, and 10 students are featured in the online exhibition, which you can view here: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
