HISTORY:<\/strong> The first Stanner Track & Field team competed in the fall of 1924 at St. Ann\u2019s Academy. Since then, we have grown across two schools and won an immense number of team titles, gained national acclaim, and most importantly, built relationships that have lasted for life. Molloy Earns Gold on AP Honor Roll, AP Access Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The College Board announced that Archbishop Molloy High School has been named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll<\/strong>, once again earning Gold distinction! Molloy earned Honor Roll recognition for the second consecutive year based on criteria that reflect our commitment to increasing our college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, 71% of Molloy\u2019s graduating class took at least one AP course, and 59% of all seniors received a score of 3 or higher on at least one of their AP exams, earning Molloy Platinum status in the AP School Honor Roll Metrics College Credit category! \u201cAP gives students an opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,\u201d said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program at College Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Molloy saw a 50.4% increase in its number of AP Scholars in just one year! AP Scholars are students who score a 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. In 2023, Molloy offered 20 AP courses and awarded 105 AP Scholar certificates. In 2024, Molloy offered 24 AP exams and is excited to announce a record breaking 158 AP Scholars!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Molloy has been recognized with the 2024 AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses, illustrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Principal Mrs. Maria Cuomo <\/strong>shares, \u201cEarning the AP Gold Honor Roll status and an AP Access Badge highlights Molloy\u2019s dedication to fostering a robust college-bound culture and providing equitable opportunities for all students to engage in AP courses. This recognition not only reflects our success in achieving significant student participation and performance in AP programs, but also enhances our school’s reputation for providing coursework to our families who value academic rigor. Furthermore, it signals to our community that we are dedicated to preparing students for college readiness and success, ultimately supporting their future educational and career aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Class of 2028 recently participated in one of Molloy\u2019s most fun traditions: Freshman Field Day! On Friday, September 27th, each freshman homeroom gathered in the Jack Curran Gymnasium to compete for the title of Homeroom Champion! Spirits were high during the friendly competition, as bonds between classmates grew stronger than ever. Freshman Field Day is an important day for first-year students, as the event fosters a strong sense of community and helps students to “break the ice” while making new friends and supporting one another.
 
The day\u2019s events included basketball knockout, a chess match, races, a balloon relay, the one-minute challenge, and everyone\u2019s favorite main event, the high jump! This year\u2019s freshman class was full of energy, cheering and clapping from the moment field day began until Mr. Klimas announced 1C as this year\u2019s Homeroom Champion! Congratulations to all who participated, won medals, and showed Stanner Spirit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each fall, Molloy\u2019s Activities Fair showcases the over 60 clubs and activities available to Stanners! From Book Club, Quiz Bowl, and Model UN, to Sports Media Club, Intramural Sports, and Robotics, students are encouraged to join clubs after school to pursue their interests, make new friends, and become more confident leaders! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 1st, this year\u2019s Activities Fair was busier than ever. The Jack Curran Gym was full as Stanners went from table to table, signing up for clubs while watching their classmates and teachers put on entertaining performances on stage. Now that the fair is over, all activities are in full swing, and we\u2019re especially excited for our freshmen to become involved in all Molloy has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, October 8th, TJ Fox and Vincent Ruddy from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy visited Molloy to facilitate a 3D printing workshop for Mr. Touzin\u2019s Computer Science & Engineering students. The visitors spoke about how 3D printing machines work, how architecture relates to 3D printing, the different filaments that can be used, and more! Throughout the presentation Mr. Fox and Mr. Ruddy showed off objects they had made with their 3D printer, including helmets inspired by superheroes and video game characters, as well as answered student questions. Congratulations to our latest Stanner Athletes of the Week: Jackie Messer ’25<\/strong>, MJ Sim Jr. ’27<\/strong>, Emma Palacio ’28<\/strong>, and Nico Tolentino ’25<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week of 9\/23 – 9\/29, Jackie scored three goals and had one assist, helping the Girls Varsity Soccer team to two big wins. MJ, a rising bowling star, bowled a perfect 300 game for the second time in his young career, helping Molloy to secure a win in their first team match of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week of 9\/30 – 10\/6, Emma won all three of her singles tennis matches, including an 8-6 victory against the previously undefeated Xaverian. Emma’s outstanding performances helped the Girls Varsity Tennis achieve a 3-1 record during the week. Nico bowled well throughout the week, scoring high games of 242 and 246. Nico’s contributions helped Molloy’s Bowling team remain undefeated to start the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls Varsity Swim \u2013 Coming off an undefeated season and City Championship in 2023-24, the Girls Varsity Swimming team began their new season with a win solid 97-66 win against Fontbonne Hall. The team has aspirations for another stellar year.<\/td><\/tr>
Cross Country – At the St. Anthony’s Invitational, Aoife Garvey ’25<\/strong> placed 19th out of 136 in the 5000M, while Thomas Barker ’25<\/strong> placed 13th out of 117 in the 5000M.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Endy ’68<\/strong> Completes “Rim to River to Rim” Hike at Grand Canyon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to Dr. Bill Endy ’68<\/strong>, who completed the grueling “Rim to River to Rim” hike at the Grand Canyon last month! Dr. Endy, a longtime experienced hiker, has completed several significant hikes at the Grand Canyon within the past few years. Now, at age 74, he has conquered this most challenging hike, which equated to approximately 20 miles! The route he took also included the shorter “Eye of the Needle” side hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was brutal, but I was able to successfully finish,” said Dr. Endy. “It took me just under 14 hours.” Dr. Endy also admitted this was likely his last “extreme” hike due to his age, but he is nevertheless proud of what he has accomplished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of Dr. Endy’s motivation for completing this hike, as has been the case with his other recent major hikes, is to acquire more followers on his YouTube Channel. If he can reach 1,000 followers on YouTube, he can monetize the channel, pledging that any proceeds from views would be donated to the Jack Gremse ’68 Tuition Assistance Fund at Molloy, which was created in honor of his late friend and classmate. Congratulations to Stanner Hall of Famer Gaetano Fazio \u201901<\/strong> and his wife Yolanda on the birth of their daughter, Marianna Rose Fazio!  Marianna was born on August 23, 2024 at 5:27pm (height: 21 inches | weight: 8 lbs 1 oz).  Additional congratulations to Gaetano and Yolanda\u2019s families, including Marianna\u2019s uncles Gino Fazio \u201881<\/strong> and John Fazio \u201987<\/strong>.  Best wishes to Gaetano, Yolanda, and big brother Giovanni!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archbishop Molloy High School was recently informed of the passing of retired faculty member Mr. Kieran Mullins<\/strong> (November 5, 1937 ~ August 15, 2024). Born in the Bronx, Mr. Mullins attended Holy Cross Elementary School and St. Helena\u2019s High School. He graduated from Marist College and began teaching at Molloy shortly thereafter. At Molloy, Mr. Mullins taught the sciences along with Drivers Ed for over 40 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A beloved husband and father, he was described by family as kind, generous, patient, loving, witty, and a gentle soul. He loved retirement and living in Arizona. He enjoyed playing golf, poker with his card buddies, crossword puzzles, and was always looking forward to his next cruise. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He also cherished many fond memories from his time at Molloy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please join us in prayer for Mr. Mullins and his family. Let us remember fondly and with appreciation our time spent with him in the classroom, as colleagues, and as friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are saddened to share the passing of James C. Donovan ’66<\/strong>, who passed away on October 2, 2024. James is remembered as a dedicated family man.
