In only two short years, Molloy’s alumni network via LinkedIn has more than doubled as of August 2012. Alumni representing law, business, finance, education, healthcare, media and entertainment amongst other careers are communicating with one another daily using Molloy’s LinkedIn networking groups. For those that don’t know, LinkedIn is a popular and free of charge social media website geared toward the working professional. Since 2003, millions of individuals across the globe have utilized LinkedIn in acquiring education or career advice, posting or seeking jobs, and building their professional networks by adding “connections,” or colleagues, friends and former classmates in the professional landscape they may know. Users are also open to link with individuals working in similar careers that they may know only through their existing connections, and therein lies the power of professional networking – sometimes the secret to finding the perfect job is all about who you know. Building one’s professional network is a huge factor in today’s extremely competitive job market, and by participating in Molloy’s alumni network using LinkedIn, Stanners have a convenient and friendly venue to help one another along the road to success.

Currently on LinkedIn, Molloy offers a central group for all alumni as well as several important sub-groups (pictured left) representing specific alumni networks. Several networks, including our lawyers, badges, and Stanner women, have already been huge successes, having all launched numerous events in the past year. The Stanner Alumni Center plans to grow these and other professional networks even further, but we can’t do it without you. If you are a working professional and are interested in connecting with other Molloy alumni, LinkedIn is a great place to start. This is also an excellent opportunity for our recent graduates to begin establishing their professional identities. It is never too early to begin working on your resume, and LinkedIn seamlessly encourages you to do just that. Each member profile acts as a resume, promoting a user’s work experience, accomplishments, awards, and educational background. Even if you only graduated this past June, now is the perfect time to begin this process. Click here to visit Molloy’s LinkedIn group, or click here to sign up on site.

Molloy Women’s Alumni Happy Hour

As referenced in the above article, an important aspect of the alumni networks here at Molloy is the events they create – all of which help bring Stanners together. Sometimes simply meeting up with other alums after work for a drink is all it takes to rekindle old friendships, make new ones, or expand your professional network. With these points in mind, members of the Molloy Women’s Alumni Network committee mobilized this summer to host a Happy Hour event for their fellow Stanner women at The Stumble Inn on the upper west side of Manhattan. Those in attendance reminisced a bit about the “good old days” at Molloy, but also talked about their current work in industries including finance, business, healthcare, and more. The trailblazers for a school that only educated men for over 100 years, our Stanner women are succeeding in all areas of the professional world – and they are representing their alma mater in astounding ways every day. Taking advantage of the Women’s Alumni Network, as well as those dedicated to specific industries, is important in not only building contacts, but setting an example for future graduates who will look to make their own mark on the professional landscape. We thank all those that came out to the event last week, and encourage others to keep reading the Beehive for more information on more events hosted by our Molloy Women’s Alumni Network.

3 Weeks Left to Participate in the $50,000 Challenge

In June, a $50,000 challenge was proposed to Stanners by an anonymous benefactor who plans to match any gift made to the Fund For Molloy 2:1 through August 31st. This exciting experience comes after Angela recently worked as a directing apprentice with the Powerhouse Apprentice Training Program hosted by New York State & Film and Vassar College. It was through this program that she met Max Friedlich, chief writer of SleepOver, who hired her on the spot to work with him on his play, which not only included her aforementioned title, but also directing a short play as well as dispersing promotional content using social media.
