Molloy’s Summer Enrichment Program – Now Enrolling!
Molloy is offering its annual Summer Enrichment Program during the summer of 2024! Our program provides a unique and exciting opportunity for academically dedicated rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders to enjoy fun activities while learning about topics and ideas in which they are interested.
Students select a “major” and a “minor,” attending both classes every day during each session. Participants can choose from courses including Computer Science, Creative Writing, Video Production, Theater, Chess, STEAM/Energy, and more! Each course will be taught on our campus by a member of Molloy’s knowledgeable faculty.

Stanner Life Magazine Coming Soon to Mailboxes Everywhere
The latest issue of Stanner Life will be arriving in mailboxes everywhere in the coming days! Molloy’s annual magazine features news from all around our school community. This year’s issue includes many informative articles about the wonderful programs available to our students, as well as the many opportunities alumni have to reconnect through events. In addition, we highlight the Fund For Molloy and several Named Scholarships that benefit outstanding students, including the Dr. Patrick Murphy Memorial Scholarship, the Curran Fund, the Kaitlyn Mendoza Fund, and the Karina Vetrano Memorial Scholarship.

Afro-Caribbean Club Celebrates Black History Month with Hall Parade
On February 29th, members of the Afro-Caribbean Club walked the halls of Molloy in celebration of Black History Month! Stanners held up flags representing their cultural heritages, all while playing music and cheering as they passed each homeroom. Molloy Highlights Student Athlete Sean Green, Star Swimmer!
Molloy Athletics has a rich history, full of professional athletes that have gone on to have successful playing or coaching careers. While basketball and baseball have been the dominant pro-athletic tracks, this school year a star athlete in another sport is emerging: swimmer Sean Green ‘25.
A junior at Molloy, Sean has been swimming since he was about nine years old. “I started swimming because of my family,” shares Sean, with his grandpa, dad, sister, and aunt all sharing a love for the sport. Sean continued swimming at Molloy, joining the varsity swim team in just his freshman year, while simultaneously swimming for his club team, the Long Island Aquatic Club.
Sean’s dedication to the sport both in and out of Molloy has earned him various awards, accolades, and titles. He currently holds the Molloy school record in the 200 free, and is rated number three in the country overall in his age group, but rated number one in the 400 Individual Medley (IM). Sean is the current 18 and under national champion in the 400 IM, and last year he was the 18 and under national champion in the 800 free. He holds the national age group record in the mile, and is currently a member of the National Junior team where he represents the USA when he swims.
Most excitingly, Sean’s times in four different events have earned him a spot in the Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, Indiana in June 2024! “I’m excited about the trials,” says Sean, “because if I do well enough, I’ll get to go to Junior Worlds in Australia!” Sean qualified in the 400 IM, the 1500 freestyle, the 800 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle, and has a chance of making it to the 2024 Summer Olympics. “I’m thankful to all of my coaches. I have a great relationship with all of them, we communicate really well, and I think that’s helped me,” shares Sean.
Just this past weekend, Sean competed at A Champs, winning the 200 free and breaking his own school record by three seconds! He also broke the 500 record in the city, state, and federation, all of which were records set a decade ago, as well as the 23 year old school record by a whole seven seconds! At the end of the meet, Sean was awarded the Vinny Harkins MVP Award, making this a spectacular personal best!
Ms. Heather Green-Wresch, Executive Director of Enrollment Management, head coach of Molloy’s boys and girls swim teams, and Sean’s aunt, is extremely proud of his accomplishments. “I am so proud to watch Sean swim,” says Ms. Green-Wresch. “He has such wonderful school spirit and is always helping and cheering his teammates on. I cannot wait to see what great things he will accomplish in the future!” Although still a junior, Sean has already committed to swimming at the University of Georgia in 2025, and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship. Congratulations, Sean! The Molloy community looks forward to cheering you on in June!
Field Trip To Vaughn College
On Tuesday, February 27th, Stanners had the opportunity to visit Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, which prepares students for careers in aviation, engineering, and robotics. Chaperoned by Mr. Joe Touzin, Computer Science & Engineering students toured the school’s campus and learned about the future of air travel.
While on the trip, Stanners were introduced to Joby, a startup company that creates electronic aerospace vehicles. The company is working on a vehicle called the eVTOL, a large drone that will act as an air taxi, meant to compete with ground travel. Those in attendance even had the chance to experience a flight simulator! Mr. Touzin thought the trip was “a unique opportunity to dive deep into the aviation, engineering, and tech fields,” and students Ayden Montalvo ‘24 and Morgan Stuart ‘24 thought it was simply “exhilarating” and “insightful!”
Westen Lipin ‘26 shares, “The hangar was probably my favorite part of the indoor tour, as viewing the boxer engines set in the aircraft with the hydromatic propeller pitch controllers exposed was an amazing sight.” He continues, “Seeing the engine display outside of the building was another highlight of my day. The massive turbo fan engines with the visible bypass and compression system were a sight to see.”
Molloy is always looking for ways to broaden the career horizons for our Stanners, and we appreciate the CS&E Department and Vaughn College for giving students the opportunity to learn about such technologies!
Molloy Hosts African Art Exhibit

Molloy parent Mr. Damani Nyahuma returned to Molloy on February 12th to exhibit his incredible collection of traditional African artifacts and artworks for our Stanners to view and appreciate! Mr. Nyahuma has gathered statues and sculptures from West Africa, including pieces from native tribes spanning across Ghana and Egypt. He also has more modern works of African-American art, some of which came from the Birmingham Museum in Alabama.
When asked what inspired Mr. Nyahuma to collect such artifacts, he responded, “When you become a collector it’s never on purpose. You see something, you feel smitten, you like it, you get it. And the next thing you know, you’ve started to collect things. It’s like an evolution.” However, Mr. Nyahuma says the main inspiration behind his collection is wanting to understand and embrace culture. Molloy’s D&I consultant Dr. Alice Prince commented on the exhibit, stating, “I think regardless of it being Black History Month, I believe it is so important for us to embrace culture. This exhibit is amazing and we are also going to be procuring more cultural exhibits in the future.” She believes that cultural exhibits like Mr. Nyahuma’s are impactful for students.
Classes were flowing in and out of the exhibit throughout the day. Mr. Nyahuma shared with students the significance of culture and tradition, as well as the importance of understanding personal history and the roots of where we all come from. Valentine’s Day Fundraiser
In February, Stanners were given the opportunity to dress down in various shades of red and pink to celebrate Valentine’s Day! To participate in the dress down, each student donated three dollars, with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Marist school communities in Madagascar. The fundraiser reflects the wonderful generosity of our school community and Molloy’s commitment to supporting the greater Marist world!
Track & Field Updates
Another record-breaking performance by girls track and field! In February at the Milrose Games, the team of Maria Badalamenti ‘25, Eva Gonzalez ‘24, Camille Munoz ‘25, and Jenna Wright ‘24 won the CHSAA 4x400m Relay with a time of 4:06.17. This broke Molloy’s school record set back in 2010 by over 4 seconds! Milrose Games is a prestigious annual Track and Field event that showcases many incredible student-athletes from across the country, and we are proud of our students for doing so well in such a setting.
At the Intersectional Championships on February 17th, the girls overall team placed second. Jenna Wright broke the Molloy record in the 300m, qualifying her for the National Championships. She held this record for just over one minute, when Eva Gonzalez set the new record at 41.86 seconds. Eva also placed second in the 600m, qualifying her for the NY State and National Championships. In addition, Caroline Rozmus ’24 placed first in the Pole Vault.
Congratulations to Eva Gonzalez, who has received the Sportsmanship Award representing the CHSAA.
Alumni and Parents Welcome!
Young Alumni Lead Special Virtual Panel
On Thursday, February 15th, the Afro-Caribbean Club and Diversity and Inclusion Council hosted a special alumni panel! The goal of the collaboration was to highlight our amazing alumni, give current students a chance to see a glimpse into their near futures as college students and professionals, as well as increase belonging at our school. Alumni Sydney Bryant ‘19, Keren Elmore ‘22, Benedict Harvey ‘14, Autumn Hill ‘22, and Rob Lewis ‘17 took time out of their busy schedules to speak to Stanners about their academic and professional careers.
Panel member career paths ranged from Speech-Pathology and Audiology to Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace. Each panelist shared advice and answered many questions posed by the students throughout the event. Dr. Alice Prince thought the panel a success, saying “it was immensely beneficial for our students as it allowed them to see a reflection of their future successful selves.” She also appreciated that the former students “expressed their faith with such depth and sincerity, crediting Molloy with equipping them with the skills necessary for their academic and spiritual journeys.” Thank you to all who made the panel possible, and thank you once again to the panelists for speaking to our students!
Members of the Class of 1982 got the celebration of their collective 60th birthdays officially underway! Several friends gathered at the home of Dr. James Gigante ’82 and his wife Natalie for the celebration. In attendance from left to right: John Mangan 82, Tom Westman 82, Mike Dattoma ’83, Paul Foschi ’82, Dr. Jim Gigante ’82, John Coffee ’82, and Kevin Dehler ’82. According to Tom, “It was a festive gathering of a few guys who shared good memories and great stories from our time on Manton Street!”

Archbishop Molloy High School is saddened to share the passing of Harry Crisafulli on February 27, 2024. Harry and his wife Pauline helped create the Justin Crisafulli ’99 Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of their late son. Since its creation, this scholarship has helped many students to attend and have a wonderful experience at Molloy. Please keep Harry and the Crisafulli family in your prayers. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Brigid Catholic Church (85 Post Ave, Westbury, NY 11590).
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Martin L. Stephens, Ph.D., ’74, who passed away on February 17, 2024. According to his obituary, Martin “devoted his career to animal protection, as vice president of animal research issues for the Humane Society of the United States and as senior research associate at the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.” He was a leading advocate for the replacement of animals in research, testing, and education, and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. We were recently informed of the passing of William J. Krejci Sr. ’47 on March 18, 2023. William family includes many Stanners, including his sons, William G. Krejci ’82 and Joseph F. Krejci ’84, and grandchildren Mary Therese Rooney ’11, Margaret Rooney ’12, Bernadette Rooney ’14, Claire Rooney ’16, and Robert Rooney ’18. According to Bernadette, “My grandfather had a great love and fondness for the school and was thrilled to have generations follow in his steps and attend and enjoy it as much as he did.” Please keep William and his loved ones in your prayers.
