Stanners Celebrate Liturgies of the Holy Spirit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors celebrated their annual Class Liturgies of the Holy Spirit. Through these Liturgies, students come together to pray, strengthen their spiritual connection, and begin the school year with a sense of purpose and faith. Class candles were displayed at each Mass, signifying the bond that unites students as members of their class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. Nicholas Colalella<\/strong>, celebrant of all three liturgies, encouraged students to recognize that the Holy Spirit offers them a new school year filled with opportunities to put their faith into action. He also reminded Stanners that Molloy provides many ways to grow in their faith, including retreats, service trips, and liturgies. One member from each class then spoke to their peers, encouraging them to learn and grow throughout the school year and recognize God’s presence in both their challenges and successes. Thank you to Fr. Nick for helping us celebrate this cherished Molloy tradition!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bishop Robert Brennan<\/strong> is scheduled to celebrate the Senior Liturgy of the Holy Spirit on September 29th. We look forward to welcoming the Bishop back to Molloy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, September 25, the Class of 2030 recently took part in one of Molloy\u2019s favorite traditions: Freshman Field Day! Their day began with their annual Liturgy of the Holy Spirit, where Fr. Nicholas Colalella encouraged Stanners to seize every opportunity Molloy offers to put their faith into action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Mass, all freshman homerooms headed to the Jack Curran Gymnasium for a day full of friendly competition, teamwork, and Stanner Spirit as they competed for the title of Homeroom Champion! Students put their skills to the test in a variety of events, including basketball knockout, chess, races, shot put, and more. The gym was filled with energy all day as classmates cheered each other on and celebrated every success. The event wrapped up with the crowd-favorite high jump, ending the day on an exciting note!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to all of the students who participated, earned medals, and showed incredible Stanner Spirit. And a special congratulations to Mr. O\u2019Reilly and Homeroom 1D for being crowned this year\u2019s Freshman Field Day Champion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seniors & Freshmen Donate Backpacks\/Supplies to Families in Need<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing Molloy’s September tradition, the Class of 2027 recently participated in Senior Backpack Day! Seniors showed off backpacks featuring beloved childhood characters, from classic princesses to iconic video game favorites. At the end of the school day, the backpacks were collected by Campus Ministry and filled with school supplies donated by the freshmen during their one-day retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once packed, the backpacks will be donated to St. Marguerite\u2019s Food Pantry at Our Lady of Fatima Parish to support children and families in need. A representative of St. Marguerite’s Pantry thanked Molloy’s students for all they do to help families in the Queens community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to all of the seniors who donated backpacks and to the freshmen who contributed school supplies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 12th and 13th, a group of Molloy alumni were welcomed back home to the Marist Brothers Center at Esopus for our second annual Alumni Retreat! Throughout the weekend, our alumni were able to rekindle old relationships, build new bonds and friendships, and simply take time to be present with God on the hallowed grounds of Esopus. The theme of the weekend was \u201cLanterns Light the Way Home.\u201d Our alumni spent time exploring and sharing about the people who were lights and lanterns during their time at Molloy, helping to guide them through so many of the ups and downs of life as a teenager in high school. Countless faculty, staff, and Brothers came up in conversation over the weekend and were recognized as “lanterns” in our lives. The group also took time to embrace their own inner light, and how important it is to be a light to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekend included games and fun activities, including dodgeball in the gym and time down by the river. The retreatants closed out their weekend with a great reminder from The Gospel of Matthew, that we cannot hide our light from the world, but rather we must shine brightly in order to make Jesus known and loved: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. — Matthew 5: 14-16 <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We plan to continue offering this inspiring experience to alumni in the years to come, and we hope that hearing from the alumni who enjoyed this restorative weekend will encourage many new participants in 2027!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Mohr ’03<\/strong>: “After a 23-year gap, it was amazing to come back and be reminded why Esopus is so special. I\u2019m grateful for new friends made and for reconnecting with old ones\u2026I\u2019m grateful for Molloy, the common denominator between all of us. What an honor and privilege it is to be a Stanner, and it\u2019s weekends like this that remind us of that.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brendon Conroy ’03<\/strong>: “It was the perfect spiritual recharge that was needed in my life. It was wonderful catching up with my fellow Stanners and making new friends and I honestly can\u2019t wait for the next retreat.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danny Pupplo ’03<\/strong>: “Meeting everyone was so great, and I can see that Molloy is still a place that amazing people come out of and gravitate towards. To my fellow retreaters, thank you for your acceptance, vulnerability, and compassion. It was a weekend of growth for all of us, and I feel more bonded to Molloy than I have in over two decades.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Sieligowski ’03:<\/strong> “It was amazing experiencing that feeling that Esopus brings to us all. I had a great time catching up with my fellow old men of 2003, and especially meeting new faces.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydney Bryant ’19<\/strong> (who attended while visiting from London<\/em>): “I’m excited to bring the light to those outside of Esopus as well, including across the pond!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 19th, the Marist Brothers Center at Esopus held its annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, honoring individuals and groups who have made a profound impact on MBCE and its ongoing legacy. On behalf of the Molloy community, our heartfelt congratulations to this year’s distinguished inductees: Francis Curley ’88<\/strong>, Fr. Richard LaMorte<\/strong>, Br. James Norton ’63<\/strong>, Br. Owen Ormsby ’74<\/strong> (Vice Provincial<\/em>), Coleen Waldron<\/strong>, the Esopus Runners<\/strong>, and the 1970s Maintenance Crew<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to applauding the Stanners, family members, and friends who were honored, it was wonderful to celebrate this historic occasion alongside many more Stanners and friends who love and care for the MBCE community. Molloy students first experience MBCE during their high school retreats, but so many stay connected through a variety of volunteer efforts. It is the love and bond of Esopus that so many of us share that help it continue to thrive. We were recently informed of the passing of Lt. Col. Frank Tedeschi ’83 <\/strong>on July 9, 2026. Lt. Col. Tedeschi proudly served as dedicated member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers for many years. He was a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and was selected to battalion command due to his leadership and dedication, and character. After ending his military career due to medical reasons, Lt. Col. Tedeschi began working in public service in South Dakota. His life and legacy were officially recognized on the Congressional Record of the U.S. Senate on July 22, 2026. Please keep Lt. Col. We were recently informed of the passing of William James Fitzpatrick ’64<\/strong> (June 14, 2026). William was a proud New Yorker, devoted family man, and Marine Corps veteran. He was born on May 11, 1946, in New York to Margaret and William Fitzpatrick. After graduating from Archbishop Molloy High School, William went on to earn a degree from Hofstra University. He then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that sense of duty and pride with him throughout his life. Following his service, he built a lifelong career in the automotive industry, where his knowledge, work ethic, and love of cars and trucks were evident to all who knew him. We were recently informed of the passing of John R. Miani ’77<\/strong> (May 3, 2026). John earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. He went on to work for JJ Kenny for over 20 years, after which he worked for Fidelity Investments, The Municipal Bond Rulemaking Board, and Etrade. He was a well known and respected member of the business community, and is remembered as someone who could will any office with laughter. He is survived by his wife Lois, son Jason, daughter Jillian, granddaughter Juliette, sister Eileen, brother Joseph, and many more extended family and friends. Class of 1977 Reflection on the Passing of Dan and Mary Burke<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

This past summer, on a beautiful summer evening in Oyster Bay, members of the Archbishop Molloy High School Class of 1977 Track Team gathered for a mini-reunion and a celebration of a bond forged nearly fifty years ago on the track, in the classrooms, and in the halls of a school whose mission extended well beyond academics and athletics\u2014Non scholae sed vitae.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photograph captures smiling faces frozen for an instant yet shaped by time, family, careers, and most importantly, by God’s grace. As Stanners we learned that success was not measured solely by finish line victories, but by the integrity, service, and faithfulness which continued long after the race ended and became part of who we are. On that August evening it was impossible not to feel thankful our Marist values, teammates turned lifelong friends, and for God\u2019s grace, as we looked forward to our next time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we had no idea how profoundly this would change just a few weeks later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan and Mary Burke, as they had done before, graciously hosted us that evening with their special warmth and generosity, and we had every reason to believe there would be another gathering, summer evening, and opportunity to be together. Yet, tragically, we were wrong. On September 5th, just weeks after that wonderful evening, Dan and Mary departed from the Calgary area on a flight to British Columbia to visit a friend. Their plane went down in the mountains of Kananaskis Country, and both lost their lives. It is incomprehensible that Dan and Mary are no longer physically with us, but were called home early to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little did we know that this photograph would carry such a precious meaning as it is the last time that we would celebrate together with Dan and Mary. Though it may sound clich\u00e9, this reminds us to be grateful, cherish our friendships, and to never take for granted the blessing of having another day together. Please keep Dan, Mary, and their families in your thoughts and prayers. May God grant them eternal rest, and may He give their families strength, comfort, and peace during this unimaginably difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
