    Dear USA Marists,

As we enter these most sacred Holy Days, I pray that each of us is given the grace to journey more deeply with Jesus—from the table of the Last Supper, through His agony in Gethsemane, to His Passion and death on Good Friday—all freely embraced as a gift for our redemption. May we awaken with joy on Easter morning, renewed in the assurance that there is nothing He would not do for us. In these days of the Triduum, may we hear anew His call not only to follow Him—but to live as He lived.

This week, we do not remember a distant story. We stand before the suffering Christ who is still present today—in the cries of young people burdened by anxiety and loneliness, in families torn apart by war and displacement, in those living in poverty and injustice, and in a wounded Earth that continues to groan. We cannot walk with Jesus to Calvary and remain unchanged.

One of the Calls of our recent General Chapter invites us to “promote servant and prophetic leadership.” Jesus shows us what this means—not in words alone, but in action—kneeling to wash the feet of His disciples. This is not a symbolic gesture; it is a way of life. It challenges us to ask: Whose feet are we being called to wash today? Where are we being invited to step beyond comfort, to stand with the vulnerable, and to be a voice of hope and courage in a wounded world?

During these holy days, I invite you to prayerfully place yourself within the Gospel story—alongside Peter in his weakness, Mary in her steadfast love, Simon in his unexpected service, or the faithful disciple who remained to the end. Let this encounter with Jesus move your heart—not only to reflection, but to action. The Resurrection we celebrate is not only a promise for the future; it is a call to bring new life to the world here and now.

With these few words, I hold each of you in prayer that these Holy Days may be quiet, reflective, and grace-filled. We are a Province blessed with many gifts and, at the same time, entrusted with a profound mission. May we move forward with boldness and hope, as true witnesses to the Gospel.

May Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and Marcellin guide us as we continue to be Good News for young people, especially those most in need.

    With Gratitude and Prayers,

    --- Br. Dan O'Riordan '85, Provincial

Senior track & field teammates Kieran Rock (2:02), Andrew Garabito (1:55.7), Alex Goldberg (2:01), and Michael Reddy (1:55.7) made history on February 20th at the 108th annual Millrose Games by helping Molloy win the Catholic High School/Boys George T. Eastman CHSAA 4x800m Relay for the first time in over 30 years. With an amazing combined time of 7:55.57 the team established themselves as a legit force in the CHSAA and on a national scale. Andrew and Michael will be joined by Oluwatomide Alao ’17, Shauna D’Arcy ’17, Sarah Kowpak ’16, and Petra Stiglmayer ’16 as they compete this coming weekend at the New York State Championship Track & Field meet in Ithaca. National Championships take place the following weekend.

Track TrophiesMany prolific athletes have competed at Millrose Games in its history, including over 200 athletes that share the distinction of being both Millrose Games and Olympic Champions. Millrose Games continued its tradition of showcasing the potential future elites of track & field with this incredible win by our Stanners. Coach Frank Gambino ’74 was very pleased with the win. “We came close to winning a lot of meets this year, but to win a big one like this is a real shot in the arm,” he explained. “It definitely psyched us up for the outdoor season.” Coach Gambino also credited his fellow coaches for their work. “Kawan Lovelace ’94 provided excellent points in weightlifting and form, Br. Bob Andrews and myself worked hard on distance training, and Craig Katinas ’93 worked with these and other runners over the summer. It was a total team effort.” (Pictured: Millrose Games trophy surrounded by more new track & field hardware on display at Molloy)

Molloy’s Science Olympiad Team competed in the Regional Event at Grover Cleveland High School on February 6th. Impressive talent representing high schools from all across New York City face off at this annual competition, which features numerous tough events. This year’s events included Anatomy & Physiology, Experimental Design, Fossils, Green Generation, Optics, Robot Arm, and Wright Stuff (descriptions of these and other Science Olympiad events can be found HERE). Molloy placed 11th out of 40 schools, which was tops among all participating Catholic schools. Science Olympiad 2016 Results

“We are proud of this year’s team and what they achieved,” said Mr. Attard, teacher and Science Olympiad moderator. “Mr. Nadeau and I will explore ways we can ‘step up’ our game during the offseason. In more recent years, Science Olympiad has expanded tremendously and, thus, it is becoming even more competitive in the NYC region.” Mr. Attard indicated it will be important to continually look for ways to improve team and individual performances year to year in order to rank among other top schools including Townsend Harris, Stuyvesant, Benjamin Cordozo, and others.

Join the Conversation on Facebook!Last week's Facebook post reached over 12,000 people.

We were delighted last week to see alumni, students, and parents react on Facebook to the photo featured to the right. We asked a few of our seniors who have made early college decisions to sport their new university hoodies in a group photo in front of Stanner High. Our community responded with over 400 “likes”, 20 comments, and 16 shares. What makes these numbers impressive is that they worked together to help this photo reach over 12,000 different people. That is over eight times the number of students at Molloy! The participation of our community is important to us, and we encourage everyone to continue to drive the conversation on social media and help us spread the good news happening here at Molloy everyday. Congratulations once again to these and all members of the Class of 2016 on winning acceptance to the most competitive colleges in the country. Class of 1977 Gathers – Hopes for Annual Tradition

Class of 1977 at Dee's in Forest Hills

John Doyle ’77 sent us a great update highlighting a large Stanner gathering that took place in January. In John’s words:

On January 14, 2016, in the cozy confines of Dee’s of Forest Hills, in true “Stanner Spirit”, the Class of 1977 once again managed to accomplish the near impossible. Over twenty classmates, many former track team members, were joined by Mr. Tony Perrone and other friends to celebrate and remember their amazing four years at Archbishop Molloy High School. Although some of last year’s attendees to a similar reunion could not make it this year, we were lucky to have some new Stanners join us for what will hopefully be an annual tradition. Many of us picked up conversations like it was yesterday, when we walked aimlessly (and purposefully) through the halls on Manton Street. Old friendships were reignited, and it was clear from the smiles, laughter, and conversations that the values which were taught at Molloy still shine brightly in our lives.

To quote John Corrigan ‘77, “In the end Molloy is not just the building, or just the teachers, or the courses, or the education, or the athletics…WE are all Molloy. The 400 or so boys that became men there, who shared our hopes, our fears, and our dreams – and who forged bonds that transcended the years now decades later – are what make Molloy great. That was what it was for me, but I know many others feel the same. Alongside being a loving and faithful husband and a dedicated father, I count being a Stanner as one of my three proudest accomplishments in my life.”

Molloy has meant so much to each of us in different ways, and when we come together it’s amazing to see the spirit and Marist charism at work among us.

The Trip: All the Way, in my Chevrolet is on sale now on Amazon.com in print and for Kindle. The book details the epic road trip Robert embarked on in 1969. Beginning in the arctic Alaskan landscape and finishing up deep in the Straights of Magellan in southern Chile, Robert logged over 25,000 miles while passing through over a dozen countries. “I went north to south all that way before there were even roads on the route. It was me and my 1962 Chevy pickup from the Artic Circle to the southernmost place on Earth that people live, across the Straits of Magellan to Ushuaia on Tierra Del Fuego,” said Robert of the trip. “I became a man by the end, having experienced many once in a lifetime events. All I had was my youthful training at St. Ann’s and lots of luck.” The Stanner Alumni Center congratulates Robert on his work and encourages alumni to check out a multiple page preview provided by Amazon (see link above). In Memoriam

Molloy Remembers Brian Foley '75

Catholic CrossMolloy was deeply saddened earlier this week to report the passing of Brian Foley ’75, husband of Lisa, father of Melissa Foley ’13 and Jennifer Foley ’13. Brian passed away after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and friend to many within the Stanner community. During his time at Molloy, Brian was a shining example of our school motto “Not for school but for life” as a hard working student. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Poster Club, Venture, and the award winning school newspaper, “The Stanner”. Brian’s curiosity for learning and creativity continued throughout his lifetime, as seen in his art, his writing, and his involvement in many different pursuits. He had a wonderful way of inspiring and engaging others to explore and share their passions as well, and he was always at the heart of so many rich and diverse exchanges of ideas and life experiences.

To honor Brian’s memory, family, friends, and loved ones have established The Brian Foley ’75 Memorial Scholarship at Archbishop Molloy High School. Gifts in memory of Brian will directly impact the programs and services at Molloy and help strengthen our mission that began in 1892. Brian’s legacy will continue to impact a place where “individuals recognize their own self-worth and develop a lifetime of Christian values, critical thinking, leadership skills and service to others.” Visit www.molloyhs.org/donate to make your gift online. Checks can be made out to Archbishop Molloy High school with “Foley Scholarship” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to: Archbishop Molloy High School, ATTN: Stanner Alumni Center, 83-53 Manton Street, Briarwood, NY 11435-1697.
