Molloy Represented on Q104.3 Radio’s Morning Show
On Saturday, May 3rd, Alumni Development Director Craig Katinas ’93 was granted a special visit and on-air interview at the Q104.3 radio studios thanks to the help of Joe Cristiano ’97, the lead producer of the Jim Kerr Rock & Roll Morning Show. Craig sat down during the 7am timeslot with popular morning DJ Shelli Sonstein to discuss Archbishop Molloy High School, its efforts in fundraising, and its ultimate goal to support the best and brightest students in New York City with the scholarships they need and deserve. Now don’t be fooled by the timeslot, as Q104.3 regularly records an average of 1 million listeners during the early morning weekend hours. “The opportunity was offered to share the story of Molloy, its commitment to the community for service, its efforts to provide a low-cost quality education, and how our Stanner community raises support for scholarships and extraordinary needs like storm recovery through events, annual appeals, and other vehicles,” explained Craig. Shelli Sonstein and others at the station also happen to be big advocates for the importance of a quality of education, so the opportunity to help the school that Stanner producer Joe Cristiano talks about all the time with great pride appeared to be a “slam dunk” for all involved. “It was great to be included in Q104.3’s programming schedule because the station is is extremely generous to not only Molloy, but to the community at large for giving it a voice to share their causes, missions and values,” said Craig. “All too often the media focuses on the negative aspects of our society, but here’s a platform where we were able to present was nothing but positivity.” Browse the links below to the listen to the full interview or to visit other relevant Q104.3 material.

Softball Team Celebrates Senior Day
After four years together and many good memories, time is winding down for our seniors. Excitement is building for prom and graduation, and others are looking even further ahead toward college and beyond. For now, however, many seniors are just trying to stay in the moment and enjoy their last month together as a class. In athletics, the girls’ Varsity softball team’s Kristen Maurer ’14 and Taylor Moss ’14 have grown close to each other and to their teammates during their four year journey through Stanner High, but their final season in Stanner blue and white is coming to a close. In turn, the team continued the tradition of celebrating “Senior Day” this month with a party here at school. Parents and coaches also joined our seniors for the celebration, which was well deserved for Kristen and Taylor as well as the whole team following the great job they’ve done on the field the past several years. Earlier this week, the Varsity softball squad finished the 2014 regular season with a 9-3 record, earning them the first seed and a trip to the playoffs. We know that the team will work hard to make the most of their last few weeks together, and we hope you will join us in praying for their best showing in the playoff showdowns to come. Thanks to Mrs. Kathy Forgione and Coach Maureen Rosenbaum for sharing the great group photo. CLICK HERE for more on our Varsity softball team.

Highest Honors at GCHSAA Hall of Fame Induction
In the April 18th issue of The Beehive, we shared the exciting news that former Stanner great Jessica McEntee ’05 would be recognized for her years of outstanding performances both on and off the court. A two sport athlete at Molloy, Jessica ran cross country and played a key role on the girls’ Varsity basketball team. Her accomplishments remain historic: Molloy records in the high jump, long jump, and 4×400 relay, a member of two state championship teams (2003, 2005), and the girls’ Varsity basketball program’s all-time leader in points, rebounds and blocks. Jessica’s resume also includes numerous Player of the Year and Writer’s Association awards, which she earned after years of athletic success at NYU – her other alma mater. A member of eight All-American teams, Jessica ranked third in all-time scoring (1,711) and second in rebounding (1,133) at NYU and is one of only three NYU “Violets”, male or female, to compile at least 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. In addition, during her four years at NYU Jessica’s teams reached three NCAA Tournaments, making it to the Final Four in 2007 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2009. Jessica’s leadership on the court was undeniable, and she will always be remembered as a great teammate by her peers and coaches. “I know it helped me in my college career and even now. You know, preparing yourself for life after athletics, I think going through the CHSAA was instrumental,” Jessica told Jim Mancari of Currents TV.
Also receiving honors was Ellen Sarosy-Kiernan, an alumnus of The Mary Louis Academy and daughter of dedicated Stanner Tom Sarosy ’63. Ellen was a remarkable athlete at TMLA in her own right as a four sport athlete (basketball, softball, track, and volleyball), earning nicknames such as “the margin of victory” and “in a league of her own” from the local press. Tom could not be more proud of his daughter’s achievements, and was honored to stand by her side following her induction into the GCHSAA Hall of Fame. “All her brilliant achievements in four sports in four years must have stemmed from my dedicated and emancipated intramural football championship (4H) at Molloy in 1963,” Tom joked. “This is an amazing recognition and I’m happy that this elite NYC sports organization would select Ellen for this exceptional honor. I guess it doesn’t hurt to start with having God’s gifts, but then to implement star quality is the feat.” (Pictured below left: Recent Varsity basketball star Carolyn Gallagher ’13 and GCHSAA Hall of Famer Rosalyn Gold-Onwude ’05 pose with President Richard Karsten ’81. Class Updates
A team of Molloy alumni were among those with work featured in this year’s Boston Film Festival. Luke Sabis ’82 (pictured) and Michael Biondollilo ’81 (credited under the name Michael Barbuto, but not to be confused with the Canadian-born actor) co-wrote, produced, and acted in the film Missing Child, which was part of the international portion of the festival. The film portrays a young woman named Gia who has been estranged from her parents since childhood and is now seeking answers about her past. Friend and fellow alumnus Dominic Marino ’83 was also in attendance at the festival to view the premiere. Missing Child was more recently picked up to be screened at Hawaii and Los Angeles film festivals later this year. Visit IMDB.com for more info on the film. (Photo by Marcin Czepek)
Lou Moscatello ’64, who was fortunate enough to win perhaps the most hotly contested “Looking Back” featured in the May 2nd issue of the Beehive, shared some of his thoughts about the photo: “That photo showcased a great cross country team from Fall 1963, when it seemed like every other guy in school was on the team. It does not surprise me that there were many answer submissions for that particular photo. I remember the picture from its time very well. I went to grammar school with Peter Farrell ’64 and college with Bob Zieminski ’64, and won gold with them in the Cardinal Hayes Games distance medley in Spring 1963, so I recognized them easily. Jerry Cotter ’64 was a great kid and Joe McNulty ’64 a feisty one. And I was lucky to be at my computer when the Beehive arrived!” Congratulations to Lou on a well deserved victory, and good luck to future participants of the “Looking Back” contest!
A group of proud Stanners got together recently to catch up on old times. The gathering included Dan McGrath ’01, Tim Cruise ’01, Edward Hynes ’01, Robert Oerzen ’01, and Shaun McGrath ’97. Thanks to the guys for sharing the photo!
We are saddened to share the passing of Andrew G. Gangone ’74 of Alpharetta, Georgia. Andrew passed away in early April. He will be sorely missed by his family, as well as his friends from the Class of 1974. Please keep Andrew in your thoughts and prayers.
