Stanner Gift Challenge

To all who champion the Mission of Molloy, we are truly blessed and grateful for the continued support to our scholarship programs, the Stanner Golf Classic, and our Annual Fund – The Fund For Molloy.
We wish to give a special thanks to every alum, parent and friend who participated in the Stanner Gift Challenge this Christmas season. Thanks to your support, plus the matching gift challenge of $40,000 from an anonymous alumnus, over $109,000 was raised as a result of our challenge! The support provided through The Fund For Molloy is critical to $250,000 in capital projects and the $250,000 reserved for needs assistance for the 2014-2015 academic year (see pie chart for further details on FFM goals).
The gifts received from the Stanner community through The Fund For Molloy provide the financial flexibility to address $7 million in capital projects identified to be completed by 2021, help keep tuition affordable, and ensure Molloy has the ability to help students with extraordinary financial or personal needs.
Gifts to Molloy help to facilitate the dream of a great education for our current and future students as well as our school’s ability to provide opportunities to help our local and world communities through our many student service projects. As the end of 2014 approaches, now is a great time to make a charitable gift to Archbishop Molloy High School. Please consider making your gift by December 31st.
We are stronger with you. Sed Vitae!

In a recent roundtable discussion with Molloy’s Advisory Panel of professional wealth management advisors, discussed was what it means for parents to “be prepared” for the expense of college for their children, for possible long-term health care needs, and retirement. With over 80 years of professional experience collectively, our panel offered the following “road map” for consideration:
- Set realistic goals: Establishing real goals, following them through, and tracking your progress are keys to success in achieving all of your financial goals.
- Create a balance: Creating a financial plan isn’t enough; one has to take into account the expenses we need to live day to day. Finding the balance between what you can save for the future and what you need for today plays a key role in your ability to effectively invest in your long-term goals.
- Small investments over time add up: The journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step. Personal financial goals do not have to be overwhelming if you have patience, create a discipline of saving, and take it one step at a time.
- Be active in your goals: It is one thing to talk about what your vision of the future will be; it is another to act on these goals. A critical action step is to prioritize each of your personal goals in order of importance, and then determine how long you have to save for each of them.

Each year, Stanners gather for the Br. Ron Marcellin Scholarship Dinner & Raffle to pay tribute to the memory a great Marist Brother. Br. Ron Marcellin ‘52 was a kind, caring person who created his own style of teaching the Marist Charism. He dedicated his life to educating young people, in many instances lending special guidance to students most in need. Br. Ron instilled many fine qualities in his students including self-respect, confidence, and the power to be proactive in their community. Beyond the classroom, Br. Ron made a tremendous impact on the lives of young Stanners, particularly through his work in the SMILE program. Sadly, the Stanner community lost Br. Ron in 1993 after a brave fight against cancer. His spirit continues to live on in the hearts and minds everyone he inspired.
Money raised at this event will directly fund The Brother Ron Marcellin Memorial Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to deserving Molloy students and ensures funding for the mental health and well-being of a student in need. We anticipate there will be great auction prizes up for bidding as well as a 50/50 raffle that has seen winners take home $3,000 or more! Prizes will be announced in the coming weeks.
- When: March 21st, 2015 | 4:00 pm
- Where: Archbishop Molloy High School
- Admission: Free

SMILE is the longest standing non-athletic program in Molloy/St. Ann’s history. Founded by Br. Leo Richard and Mrs. Sheila Murphy in 1964, SMILE was designed to help young men – and today young men and women – build self-esteem, confront issues they are facing in their lives, and learn how to live life in a positive, responsible way.
We are looking forward to celebrating the milestone 50th anniversary of SMILE with many of the alumni who benefited from the program during their time at Stanner High, and in many cases throughout their lives. The celebration will feature group prayer and reflection, a formal program, reception, and a “SMILE Museum” including artifacts, articles, photos, and archival video footage that will help tell the SMILE story in great detail. We will also honor founders such as Br. Leo Richard, Br. Ron Marcellin, Br. Francis Regis, Dr. Patrick Murphy, Sheila Murphy, Dr. Robert Englert, Mary Michels, Mari Hart, and Fr. Edward Doran.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Catherine Menzer, mother of Molloy’s school nurse Kathy Forgione. Ms. Menzer passed away December 23rd. We ask that you please keep the Menzer and Forgione families in your prayers.
We are saddened to share the passing of Lou Berger, St. Ann’s Class of 1953 and cousin-in-law of Jack Coulter ’53. Lou’s family displayed a St. Ann’s banner during memorial services as Lou was a very proud Stanner. Please keep Lou in your prayers.
We were recently informed of the passing of Robert Scott Dowd ’61 in May 2014 in Makati City, Philippines. An IT professional in the US and abroad for many years, Robert was a Seton Hall graduate with a BA in Mass Communications. In the late 1960’s Robert went through US Navy Flight School in Pensacola and was assigned to the Naval Astronautics Group in CA. He kept up with Track & Field following his Molloy years and was even selected to the 1968 Interservice Track & Field Team representing the US Navy. Robert was involved in philanthropy in the Philippines and even stayed in touch with Marist Brothers teaching in a school there. Robert is survived by his wife Paz and their young son Joseph. Please keep Robert Scott Dowd in your prayers.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Robert O’Conner, father of Brian O’Conner ’82.
