Stanners Connect at Inaugural Real Estate Networking Event, Hosted by RFR Realty LLC
Stanner professionals in the real estate, construction, building engineering and maintenance fields gathered on Wednesday, November 18th for our inaugural Molloy Real Estate Alumni Networking event. The event, hosted by RFR Realty LLC in the open concept leasing and marketing center of their redevelopment project at 285 Madison Avenue, invited Stanners of all skill levels to attend. Whether a veteran of the real estate/construction industry or a college or entry level candidate, the networking opportunities available throughout the evening were beneficial for all attendees. Business cards were exchanged, stories were shared, and new professional connections were made.
The event included a brief presentation featuring remarks from Molloy President Richard Karsten ’81, Alumni Development Director Craig Katinas ’93, and leadership at RFR Realty LLC including Executive Vice President Jerry Schumm ’68 (pictured left). “We have a powerful network,” said President Karsten. “We are here tonight with a sense of purpose – to connect with each other and to help create professional opportunities. Clearly we are all connected under the banner of ‘Not for school but for life,’ but there is an unwritten rule that Stanners will always help other Stanners. We will help a student or young alumnus secure an internship or mentorship. We will refer business to a Stanner colleague. A deserving kid from Queens may get the break that they need to create a great future for themselves.” Jerry supplemented President Karsten’s remarks by painting a broad picture of the real estate landscape while encouraging Stanners to continue to seek each other out in the professional world to create new and lasting business ventures.
Following the presentation, the floor was once again opened up for networking opportunities. Food and beverage selections were diverse while several young alumni volunteers helped to create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Molloy extends its sincerest thanks to RFR Realty LLC for the wonderful venue they provided, to Robert Falesto ’89 and Advanced Electrical Concepts Inc. for sponsoring the event by donating all beverages, and to all alumni volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to support their alma mater. Alumni Gathering in Connecticut a Great Success
Similar to its efforts in professional networking, the Stanner Alumni Center has endeavored to bring Stanners together regionally as well. Since 2010, Molloy has hosted successful alumni events in Washington D.C. and Chicago with plans for future outings in other diverse locales. New England has been on Molloy’s radar for quite some time, as many Stanners are known to make their year round homes throughout these states.
Recently, alumni from the Class of 1964 were inspired to help forge a New England chapter after attending a reunion at Molloy. They felt that Connecticut would serve as the perfect starting point. Bill Dunn ’64 and John DiGirolamo ’64 worked with Alumni Development Officer Matt Rizzotti ’04 to coordinate and host our first Connecticut event for all class years at Two Roads Brewery in Stratford on November 17th. We are pleased to share that about 20 alumni and guests gathered to meet other local Stanners. Those in attendance represented our graduating classes of the 1960’s through the 2000’s. Two Roads Brewery proved to be the perfect venue, offering ample space and great beer as well as a private tour of the on site brewing facilities. (Pictured: Mr. Karsten proposes a toast during the event)
“It was a pleasure to work with Bill and John on the particulars of this event,” said Rizzotti. “The turnout was what we had hoped for, with others who couldn’t make it expressing interest in attending future events. Having Bill and John handle so many aspects of the event really helped, and I look forward to working with them again on our next Connecticut gathering.” President Richard Karsten ’81 echoed Rizzotti’s sentiments. “We were very pleased with the response from our Connecticut alumni. Bill and John are to be commended for working hard to reserve space at the brewery as well as to donate dinner for all. We are deeply appreciative of their efforts.” (Pictured L-R: John DiGiloramo ’64, Richard Karsten ’81, Bill Dunn ’64)
We look forward to hosting future events in Connecticut! If you would like to share thoughts and ideas with the Stanner Alumni Center, or express interest in getting involved with the Connecticut alumni chapter, please contact mrizzotti@molloyhs.org.

Archbishop Molloy High School is pleased to announce the Br. Ron Marcellin Scholarship Dinner to be held on Sunday, January 17th, 2016. This dinner, which is hosted by our friends at community favorite Trinity Bar & Restaurant in Floral Park, pays tribute to the memory of Br. Ron Marcellin, one of the most caring and influential figures in Molloy’s history. Br. Ron’s faith, passion for education and music, and care of each individual student inspired all who knew him. In fact, those who knew him continue to be inspired by him. The Brother Ronald Marcellin committee has hosted this event annually in hopes of raising money to help future Stanners in Br. Ron’s name. Funds raised by this event will directly benefit students in need, giving them the opportunities they need to succeed as the leaders of tomorrow. A 50/50 raffle and live auction will be among the festivities while dinner, beverages, and great company are also included. 50/50 raffle tickets will be available for purchase during the event or in advance by emailing ckatinas@molloyhs.org. Please spread the word to your classmates! We hope to have another full house on January 17th as we celebrate Br. Ron and introduce a whole new generation of Stanners to his wonderful legacy.
Alum’s Artwork Featured in Children’s Book
Joanne Raptis ’11 is a senior at Barnard College. She is pursuing a degree in Psychology with hopes to study clinical psychology in the future. “The work would place me with adults with depression, mood and anxiety disorders,” explained Joanne. In the meantime she is enjoying her time at Barnard. Though she is not as involved with theater and song as she was at Molloy, she does enjoy dancing with a focus on ballet and swing dancing. “It’s just something fun. Ballet and swing contrast nicely. The former is focused inward, while swing is very loose and social.” In addition to dance, Joanne has honed her artistic skills. She was asked to join three classmates to paint a permanent mural in Barnard’s student life building. The theme: celebrating campus life.
After completing the mural, Joanne was approached about an even bigger project – on a smaller canvas. The author of a book series for children stumbled on Joanne’s personal website and was impressed by her art portfolio, particularly the featured cartoon drawings. The author contacted Joanne and the two quickly struck up a working relationship. Joanne was commissioned to create the original artwork for the first of a new seven book series. “I actually work really well with the author. I have plenty of artistic freedom and look forward to her suggestions and feedback,” said Joanne. “In general our styles are well aligned. We have a similar idea of what the book should look like.” The book, titled My Dream For You is Happiness, is a children’s story that features content that is geared toward all audiences. “For example, one page in the book reads ‘my dream for you is happiness’ and shows the different ways happiness can manifest itself. Another idea in the book is you don’t have to be tall, or any certain ethnicity, or be a certain age; everyone can find happiness. The author wants you to read the book to someone you really care about and let them know they can find happiness no matter who they are.” Joanne says work will begin on the second book soon. “It is a challenge to complete the work around my college courses, but I enjoy it.” For more information on the book series you can visit www.mydreamforyou.org or click here for more info on Joanne and her portfolio.
