Track & Field 100th Anniversary Celebration – REGISTER NOW!
JOIN US: Please join us as we mark 100 Years of Stanner Track & Field! A celebratory event will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025. There will be food and drink, speeches, and many laughs to be had by all!
HISTORY: The first Stanner Track & Field team competed during the 1924-25 year at St. Ann’s Academy. Since then, we have grown across two schools and won an immense number of team titles, gained national acclaim, and most importantly, built relationships that have lasted for life. This dedicated group of men and women – guided by generations of outstanding coaches – has built a family. We look forward to celebrating the legacy of Stanner Track & Field.
Congratulations to Our D1-Bound Student Athletes!
Archbishop Molloy High School congratulates our Division 1-bound student-athletes, who celebrated their Signing Day last week!
Patrick DeSarno ’25 has committed to playing baseball at the University of Albany. Patrick is a three-year varsity athlete – an outstanding shortstop who bats at the top of the lineup. Patrick was named team MVP and B/Q CHSAA Player of the Year last season while playing a key role in Molloy’s first-ever Varsity Baseball CHSAA State Championship. Assistant Coach Ms. Staiano shares, “Patrick led the team and the league last season batting .446 with a .552 on base percentage. He logged 37 hits, including 12 for extra bases, while scoring 34 runs, knocking in 25 RBIs, and stealing 16 bases. He played an incredible shortstop while sporting a .93 fielding percentage. Patrick is not only an impressive player, but a fantastic student, teammate, and person. We are looking forward to another exciting season, especially with Patrick and this group of seniors leading the charge!”
Sean Green ’25 has committed to swimming at the University of Georgia next fall. Sean made headlines earlier this year when he competed in his first Olympic swimming trials. Sean ultimately placed 11th place in the country in both the 400 Freestyle and the 400 Individual Medley, and 8th overall in the 800 Freestyle. Swimming Coach Ms. Heather Green-Wresch shares, “Sean is an extremely important member of Molloy’s Boys Varsity Swimming team. He has three school records and a state record in the 500 free. Sean’s drive and determination is what leads our team to doing our best. He is one of our captains and shows great care and leadership for the younger swimmers. We will absolutely miss him when he graduates.”
Arianna Steele ’25 has committed to playing golf at Manhattan College. Her golf coach, Chris Murphy ’87, shares, “Arianna is a hard worker with a gifted swing who never stops impressing other golfers with her energy and creativity on the course. She is laser-focused and has an uncanny ability to relax out on the golf course. She is a truly impressive student athlete and I wish her success in her next chapter!” An outstanding multi-sport athlete, Arianna is also a multi-time Brooklyn/Queens Champion as part of Molloy’s Girls Varsity Tennis team.

Parents’ Guild Hosts Freshman Parents at Evening Reception
On Thursday, November 7th, Molloy’s Parents’ Guild welcomed freshman parents for a special evening reception. The event provided an opportunity for parents new to our community to get better acclimated with Molloy, to network with other parents, and to have a fun night at their child’s/children’s high school! The evening included a 50/50 raffle as well as a trivia contest. Those who correctly answered during trivia won gift baskets courtesy of the Parents’ Guild.
The event was of course organized by our Parents’ Guild, a group of dedicated and enthusiastic Stanner parents, past and current, who proudly sponsor parent-focused events, engage in outreach, and help keep our parents involved throughout the school year. Members of the Guild not only host events for parents, but they lend their time and talents to other events including alumni gatherings, school functions, and more. Molloy deeply appreciates the contributions of our Parents’ Guild. For those parents reading who might be interested, the Guild is always recruiting! Contact beehive@molloyhs.org if you would like to learn more.
Sandra Rosemond and Lou Santos, lead organizers for the Parents’ Guild, extend their sincerest thanks to Molloy’s Administration, the parent volunteers, Culinart catering, and everyone who helped make the evening a success.
SAVE THE DATE: The Parents’ Guild will host its second annual Luau on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Tickets will be available online soon, so stay tuned!
Campus Ministry Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House
On Monday, November 11th, nine students volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in New Hyde Park. A home away from home for families with hospitalized children, RMH warmly welcomed our students and then gave them a tour. Afterward, our students cooked breakfast for families who may not have the time or ability to do so given their children’s health situations. Ms. Rose Haslbauer, Campus Minister for Service who organized this initiative, noted, “The students loved being able to give of themselves in this way, coming together as a team, while creating something delicious in the process.”

Ms. DeNoto’s International Service Journey in Africa
The Marists of Champagnat are a group of lay people that work together with the Marist Brothers to live out and teach Marist values in both professional and personal settings. In the initial stages of the formation process, one must write a letter to the Provincial explaining how they plan on using their membership for good. One member of the first cohort, Molloy’s Director of Library Sciences Ms. Dorothy DeNoto, explained to current US Provincial Br. Dan O’Riordan ‘85 that she was interested in international service to expand the scope of Marist love and support.
In January of 2024, Br. Dan approached Ms. DeNoto, asking if she’d be interested in spending a portion of her summer working with Marists in South Africa, volunteering with children refugees, the homeless, and the hungry. Having previous experience volunteering with refugees in Brownsville, Texas, Ms. DeNoto had no hesitation in accepting the responsibility, and in July she was on her way to Johannesburg.
The first part of Ms. DeNoto’s service trip brought her to St. Lucia, a 10 hour drive from Johannesburg. In St. Lucia is a Marist retreat center, where six Brothers were in the midst of a 30 day silent retreat in preparation for their final vows. While there, Ms. DeNoto helped around the property, organizing years worth of donated clothes, and created a library by sorting and organizing donated books. She cleaned and oiled all the holy statues around the property, and even fixed the outdoor labyrinth.

French Club Bonds Over Baking
Earlier this week, members of the French Club gathered in our Faculty Café and kitchen area to bake delicious madeleine cookies! Stanners worked together to craft the perfect buttery, lemony treats for all to enjoy. The activity provided an opportunity for new club members to get to know each other, for veteran members to have a fun afternoon, and for lucky faculty members to enjoy a treat as they passed through. Special thanks to club moderator Ms. Liwia Rosamond for organizing the event.

Stanner Athletes of the Week for 11/11 – 11/17: Junior swimmer Karolina Heerey ’26 won all three of her events during this week. He has multiple school records and the state record in the 500. |

Molloy Places 3rd in CHSAA XC Alumni Race
Stanners have continued their winning ways this Cross Country season. Molloy has collected more medals and trophies at this year’s Brooklyn/Queens Championship, Freshman/Sophomore CHSAA Championship, and Varsity CHSAA Championship. Last up is the New York State Federation Championships, where freshman Riley Devaney ’28 will be competing on November 23rd! You can follow along with real-time updates about Track & Field and Cross Country on Instagram at: @molloyhs_trackandfield.XC
On the alumni side, an amazing accomplishment was achieved by our alumni on November 9th! A team of five Stanners represented Molloy in the annual Alumni Race at the CHSAA Intersectional XC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park! The team of Tyler Bay ’11, Ali Brennan ’08, Pat Goldberg ’13, Thomas Harvey ’94, and Andrew Tansey ’77 achieved third place overall, with Tyler placing second individually overall with a time of 13:51.1. Pat and Tom both placed in the top 15, with times of 15.40.7 and 15.49.2 respectively. This third place finish was an amazing achievement considering Tyler would have placed 24th in this year’s Varsity Championship, running more than 30 seconds faster than he did as a student at Molloy, while Tom and Pat both ran the NYC Marathon only one week earlier! Congratulations, Stanners! (Special thanks to Mr. Dylan Dombrowski ’07 for information provided for this story.)
Stanners Respond: Recent & All-Time NYC Marathon Performances
In our last Beehive, we encouraged Stanners who ran this year’s NYC Marathon to share their times with us. We have since received several updates that we are proud to share with our community:
Anthony Morales ’09 (pictured above left) of the NYPD Detective Bureau finished this year’s NYC Marathon with a time of 2:43:51 (06:15 pace), topping his previous personal best time by approximately 10 minutes! Anthony was the first member of the NYPD to cross this year’s finish line, and his performance helped the NYPD secure the Mayor’s Cup vs. the FDNY team. |
Dominic Marino ’83 (pictured above middle) recently competed in the 2024 Virtual NYRR TCS NYC Marathon! Via GPS, Dominic’s miles were tracked by the Strava app and recorded by NYRR. He ran what he describes as the “Queens/Brooklyn & Back” route, which included running past Molloy twice! He received boots on the ground support from his wife Roseanne, daughter Nicole Marino ’12, son Daniel Marino ’13, and two friends (one of whom was Chris Martinez ’13, another fellow Stanner). This was Dominic’s first-ever marathon, and in his words, “It was a blast!” | Total Miles: 26.2 – Total time: 4:34:19 |
Tom McGee ’60 shares his best NYC Marathon performance, which was recorded in 1996. Tom finished the marathon in 3:01:25 at age 54. While it wasn’t his best overall marathon, it was his best NYC Marathon, which he ran 11 times. Tom shares that he never ran track while at Molloy, and in fact never excelled in any high school sports, but he remains proud of his athletic achievements that came later. We will be adding Tom to our ongoing list of all-time NYC Marathon performances by Stanners! |
Vincent DeJesus ’01 (pictured above right) completed this year’s NYC Marathon with a time of 3:58:47! Vincent’s best time was in 2023, when he finished in 3:55:02. |
John McGowan ’68 shared his best NYC Marathon time of 3:45:15, recorded back in 1977! |
This year’s NYC Marathon was the 11th for Frank Dorsa ’77 and his 17th marathon overall. He finished with a time of 4:34. Frank’s personal record in the NYC Marathon is an even 4:00, while his personal record in marathons overall is 3:42. |

Don was also thrilled that Br. John Klein was in attendance (though was not photographed). Congratulations, Don!
Congratulations to Servio Urgiles ’06 and Lauren Conter ’11, who are celebrating the birth of their son, Leo James Urgiles! By our math, that makes him a potential member of Molloy’s Class of 2042. Congratulations to the new parents and welcome, Leo!
Congratulations to Robyn Corrigan ‘05, who married Douglas Adams on November 6, 2024 at The Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas. Best wishes to the happy couple from The Beehive!
