Six Stanners Join Newest NYPD Class
Molloy’s Badges Network just got a little bit bigger this past June, as six Stanners joined the newest NYPD Class. Led of course by Police Commissioner Ray Kelly ’59, Molloy is well represented in the ranks of the NYPD. Stanner inspectors, captains, lieutenants, sergeants, detectives and Police Officers work daily to protect our families and friends, ensuring that New York City remains one of the safest cities in the world. The newest members of the force graduated with several different Companies. Anthony Nunziato ’02, Michael Carney ’05, and Edwin Sanchez ’05 represent Company #14, William O’Driscoll ’94 represents Company #15, and Anthony Carnacchio ’06 and Matt Flynn ’08 represent Company #17. Commissioner Kelly, after being contacted by Alumni Relations Director Maria Ford, agreed to meet the officers and pose for the group photo you see above. Carney, who recently worked at Molloy as a Teacher’s Assistant, is excited for this new chapter. “Being able to join the ranks of the New York City Police Department is a tremendous honor, and being able to accomplish this with other Stanners is pretty special,” said Carney, who also follows in his father’s footsteps in receiving his shield. Nunziato was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm and courtesy Commissioner Kelly showed the new officers. “The torch continues to be passed on, and the Molloy tradition of excellence continues not for school, but for life,” said Nunziato. President Richard Karsten ’81 is particularly proud of the Molloy grads. “These Stanners have continued Molloy’s great tradition of public service, and I believe the education and morals that nurtured them here will help them as they work to keep New York City safe,” said Karsten. “I would also like to thank Commissioner Kelly for meeting our alumni and taking the time to let them know that they have a strong legacy to uphold. I wish all of our newest Stanner police officers well on their new journeys and invite all of them to come back to Molloy any time, and to take full advantage of our Badges Network.”

Faculty Update
With the end of the 2012-13 school year also came a humble farewell from two individuals who have given so much to Molloy and its students for so many years. Br. Pat Lally, who at one time taught Spanish and coached track, had spent many recent years as Plant Manager, overseeing Molloy’s Facilities Staff and ensuring the school’s 6 acre campus is efficient, clean and inviting. Br. Pat retired in June after over 50 years of service to Molloy. Likewise, Ms. Mary Grennan retired after 15 years as a member of Molloy’s Religion Department. In speaking about her retirement, Ms. Grennan commented, “It’s been said that if you find a job you love you’ll never work a day in your life. During my fifteen years at Molloy I’ve put in great effort and, at times, I struggled, but it never felt like WORK. Rather, it was a grand adventure; each day brought something new and challenging. I’ll miss coming to school early each morning, having that first cup of hot coffee, and then gearing up to greet the kids. The kids were the best part.” Br. Pat and Ms. Grennan have been a wonderful part of the Molloy’s faculty, and we extend them our sincerest thanks for their many years of service and well wishes in the years ahead.
Bob Corrigan ’63 was recently highlighted in The Tablet after being honored for 40 years of coaching the St. Joan of Arc parish’s Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) track team. Bob, a native of the Jackson Heights parish and alumnus of St. Joan’s, has always been involved in his local communities. Whether it be at St. Joan’s or Molloy, Bob tries to better those around him by lending his own knowledge and experience in a leadership role. Bob, speaking about his work as a coach, was quoted in The Tablet noting his goal to develop the confidence in each young runner on his team. That confidence can eventually lead them to great achievements in life. Bob is no stranger to great achievements himself. A member of the Stanner Hall of Fame, he is also an accomplished author, having penned Always With Us – Recognizing God’s Presence in Everyday Life. The book, published by Aventine Press in 2012, weaves in many Molloy-centric stories as Bob encourages readers to find evidence of God’s constant presence in the ordinary events in their daily lives, and the lives of others. Bob’s faith is an incredibly important part of his life, and he has brought that same commitment to his CYO track team for 40 years. Congratulations to Bob, and here’s to many more successful seasons! (Photo courtesy of The Tablet)
George Jehn ’63 shares this great review of his book, Flying Too Close To The Sun, which was featured in a recent issue of Air Line Pilot magazine. This publication circulates to over 75,000 current and retired airline pilots. Click Here to read the full review.
Stanner Hall of Famer Brian Winters ’70 ran into former classmate Bob Cunningham ’70 at a restaurant in Spokane, Washington. Brian was in the Pacific Northwest to attend his daughter Meghan’s graduation from Gonzaga, while Bob has been a Spokane resident since 1975. They took the rare opportunity to catch up on 40+ years of life, and Brian discussed his experience attending Coach Jack Curran’s memorial services in March. The late Coach Curran had a distinct impact on Brian’s life, which would later influence Brian’s daughter. Meghan had a great career playing basketball for the Zags, no doubt taking after her NBA All-Star dad.
Robert Schnell ’79 and Maani Schnell are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Ishanika Gabriele, on June 5th, 2013. Ishanika was born 7 lbs 10 oz at 5:55am. All in all, the Schnell family are all doing fine one month later. In Robert’s words, “She is a true gift from heaven! Miracles can happen!”
