Molloy Celebrates St. Ann’s Breakfast
Last month, Molloy welcomed over 30 former St. Ann’s students for the annual St. Ann’s Communion Breakfast. Stanners and guests celebrated Mass together in Molloy’s chapel, and afterward gathered for a delicious buffet breakfast. Alumni reminisced about the days at St. Ann’s, thumbed through yearbooks, and reconnected with other Stanners who have become familiar faces after attending several recent breakfasts.
We heard many great stories that morning. John Burke ’57 was flipping through newspapers from the St. Ann’s archives and found a photo of his father, John Burke Sr. ’18. Yes, John’s father was a graduate of St. Ann’s from the Class of 1918! He was on the 1917-18 Varsity basketball team, who were the “Champions of Catholic High Schools of Greater New York” that year. John Jr. was also an accomplished athlete at St. Ann’s on the track & field team. John Howley ’48 informed us that his grandson would be attending Molloy this fall, continuing the tradition of Stanners in their family. Tom Sarosy ’63 assembled his classmates from the Class of 1963 for the breakfast as well. Tom, along with Frank Fitzpatrick, Ernest Liebre, Damon Pouyat, and Stephen Surman (pictured above with President Karsten) are among a group of alumni who went to St. Ann’s Academy’s grammar school and Molloy for a total of 12 years together between both schools. Ed Gaughran ’52, who attended the breakfast with his son, Dan, was excited to come back to Molloy and catch up with classmates Joseph Curley ’52 and James Ginty ’52. Ginty is a charter member on the New York City Fire Department Bagpipe Band and is retired from Ladder 42. There were many stories shared that day, showing just how important the St. Ann’s Breakfast has become. Not only is it an opportunity to honor our “Original Stanners”, but it is also a moment to to celebrate and preserve our history.
If you’d like more information about the St. Ann’s Breakfast, or would like to attend in the future, please contact the Stanner Alumni Center at alumni@molloyhs.org or 718.441.9210.
Tom Hackimer ’12 Drafted, Signs with MLB’s Twins
Tom Hackimer ’12, who has made a ton of news the past two years with his amazing stats while pitching for St. John’s University, was rewarded for all of his hard work. Tom was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2016 First Year Player Draft. He was selected in the 4th round as the 123rd overall pick – an incredible achievement when considering that some of baseball’s greatest players have been selected in much later rounds (Hall of Famer Mike Piazza was famously drafted in the 62nd round). During the 2015-16 season, Tom posted a 7-3 record as a reliever with an amazing 1.17 ERA, 8 saves, and only 24 hits and 7 runs allowed in 53.2 innings pitched. He struck out 71 and walked 19. Last year, Tom was drafted by the Mets in the 15th round, however at after some consideration he decided to return to St. John’s to complete his senior year. This time, with his degree firmly in hand, Tom opted to sign his Twins contract and take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Tom has already reported to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, a minor league affiliate of the Twins. Tom had only recorded 2.1 innings at the time of this publication, but he is slated to add to that total and pitch for the remainder of the minor league season. Coach Curran would be proud! Congratulations, Tom, and best wishes for continued success! We’ll be following your pro career all the way! |Check out the Tom Hackimer Kernels Roster Page
Faculty Update
Congratulations to Ms. Kristin Tetreau on accepting a position at Central Catholic High School in Massachusetts, and thank you for the past four wonderful years you’ve spent here at Molloy. Ms. Tetreau has been an important part of our guidance department since 2013, and she has made a great impact on our students and faculty each step of the way. Her experience, kindness, patience, and care has helped so many of us, and we are deeply appreciative for her hard work. We wish her all the best at our fellow Marist school and hope she remembers that she will always be a part of our Stanner family.

Paul Galbraith ’74 (pictured below), an actor based in the Hudson Valley, recently portrayed an interesting character that made him think of his days at Molloy. “In the spring of 1974 there was a softball game across from Molloy on the cement field between the seniors and the faculty. John Hughes ’74 and myself were the umpires for the game. He went on to play professionally, and I went on to acting. On June 5th, I played the part of a Major League Umpire at Yankee Stadium. The movie is titled Leavey and is still in production.” Check out more from Paul’s resume at IMDB.com.
Dan McGrath ‘01 and Tom Eikenbrod ‘82 (pictured above), two former Track & Field City Champions for Molloy, completed the Rugged Maniac Race in Brooklyn together June 26th. The Stanners got together for a great photo after the race. Congratulations!
We are saddened to share the passing of George Arcarola Sr. ’74, father of George Arcarola Jr. ’07 and Jennifer Arcarola ’06. George forged many lifelong friendships as a member of the Track & Field team at Molloy. He was also known as a lovable “class clown” of sorts by his peers. His love for running was not as prominent, however, as his love for his children. George was an avid cyclist, enjoyed cooking (especially with his daughter), and loved traveling with his wife, Theresa. In his family’s words: “George was larger than life, and touched the lives of every person he met. His generous spirit and bellowing laugh will always be remembered and loved. He will be sorely missed.” Please keep George and the Arcarola family in your prayers.
We are saddened to share the passing of Emma Coen, sister of Liam Coen ’17. Please keeo Emma and the Coen family in your prayers.
