Jim Kinnier Stanner Golf Classic – THANK YOU!
On behalf of everyone at Molloy, the Stanner Alumni Center extends our sincerest thanks to everyone who supported the 38th Annual Jim Kinnier Stanner Golf Classic. With beautiful weather and a record number of golfers – over 450 golfers! – this year’s outing was a historic success! Our golfers had a great day out on the links on four private courses, and all enjoyed an array of delicious meals, outstanding prizes, friendship and camaraderie, and so much more.
Thank you to this year’s Chairperson, Michael Shea ’02, and our Honorary Chairperson, Robert O’Donohue ’94, for their hard work in making this year’s outing such an amazing day. Thank you to everyone who supported the outing, whether by participating as a golfer or sponsor, purchasing a raffle ticket, placing a bid, or making a donation. Thank you to the Kinnier and Gibbons families for your continued support, and thank you to our volunteers, who filled many important roles throughout the day.

Community Supports Girls’ Leadership Scholarship Fund at Radio Bingo
On Friday, May 3rd, Molloy’s GERLL (Girls’ Empowerment for Real Life Leadership) Club hosted the ever-so-fun Radio Bingo! A crossover between Bingo and Name-that-Tune, Radio Bingo offered the Molloy community a chance to sing, dance, win prizes, and most importantly, support the Girls’ Leadership Scholarship Fund!
Throughout the night, DJ’s @ Work played songs that were found on Bingo cards. They encouraged guests to get up and dance, sing, and let loose for a night! Members of the GERLL Club sold t-shirts, food, and raffle tickets to help raise money for future female Stanners. Co-moderator of GERLL Club Ms. Sabina Kobinski ‘04 says, “Having the GERLL club to put Ms. Kerry Henning (other GERLL Club moderator) and I at ease is great because we know that they would put in 110%.” The night ended with a 50/50 raffle and auctioned off baskets, with all proceeds supporting the Girls’ Leadership Scholarship Fund.
The Girls’ Leadership Scholarship Fund was created by female faculty to help support and educate female students who might not be able to afford Molloy’s tuition. Within the walls of Molloy, the GERLL Club acts as a space that facilitates and perpetuates female empowerment. Many among the Molloy community volunteered their time, made raffle baskets, and promoted the event to ensure maximum support for a wonderful cause. Ms. Kobinski says, “It’s beautiful to see so many of our faculty, staff, and clubs come together to put on this event. We are so grateful for our ‘beehive’ of supporters.”

Stanner Scientists Make Finals at NYC STEM Fair
Senior members of Molloy’s Science Research Program are required to submit their finished projects for competition. Every year, projects are submitted to the NYC STEM Fair, and this year 14 of our 17 seniors were selected to participate in the preliminary round! Of those 14, two made finals: Caitlin Trinh ‘24 and Veronica Nerone ‘24!
The NYC STEM Fair is made up of different scientific divisions, each having their own winners. Caitlin placed first in her category, Medicine and Health Sciences, with her research on baseline knowledge of women’s health! She also received the “Wonder Woman in Science Award,” which is given to a female student scientist that promotes the empowerment of women in science! Veronica placed second in her division with her research on music cognition in children, working with a mentor at NYU Langone!
Ms. Mary Mallia, head of Science Research at Molloy, shares, “I am so proud of these two students! There were so many applicants and so many divisions, and they won!” She continues, “They won because their projects could genuinely make a difference in the world, Caitlin with young women and Veronica with children.” Congratulations to our two stellar Stanner scientists!

Campus Ministry Introduces “Project 153”
This spring, Campus Ministry introduced its newest initiative, Project 153. Building on the legacy and rich history passed on from the St. Marcellin Champagnat Society, Project 153 seeks to provide Molloy students the opportunity to meet others in different parts of the US and around the world. The name comes from John 21:11, a story in which the disciples, with Jesus’s help, catch 153 fish. That number symbolizes the number of fish species thought to exist at the time. Similarly, Project 153 will provide Molloy students with a variety of encounters with people of varied backgrounds and cultures. With those encounters, we pray they will expand their worldview so they better know and understand themselves, others, and God.
In addition, beginning in the 2024-25 school year, Molloy students will be invited to participate in a variety of events and service initiatives, including: attending the National Catholic Youth Conference in Long Beach, California; working among those struggling with material needs in Belize; helping impoverished families in upstate New York and Massachusetts; accompanying families with children suffering with chronic or terminal illness in Florid; and participating in relief work and home visits with fellow Marists in the Appalachian Hills of Kentucky.
“It is our hope that these opportunities will enable our students to have concrete means to ‘make Jesus known and loved,'” said Mr. Richard Costa, Director of Campus Ministry and Marist Mission. “Moreover, these transformative experiences will lead these young Stanners to echo a former student who upon completing a similar trip noted, “I went to save the world and the world saved me.’”
Parents’ Guild Hosts Special Evening
Earlier in May, Molloy’s Parents’ Guild welcomed parents of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors for a special Luau-themed celebration! The event, held at Molloy, was the latest gathering hosted by the Parents’ Guild, a group dedicated to helping Stanner parents meet, build community, and better connect with Molloy. The Luau included games, delicious Hawaiian dishes, and more.
Sandra Rosamond P’26, one of the lead organizers of the Parents’ Guild, shares, “On behalf of the Parents’ Guild, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our Luau. The evening was filled with great food, festive cocktails, music, games and prizes (many of which were very kindly donated), and it was a fantastic opportunity for parents to connect and engage with the school community. Thank you for all your support and participation!” Varsity Softball Head Coach Lou Santos, the other lead organizer of the Parents’ Guild, echoed Sandra’s sentiments. “Thank you to all who helped make our Luau a total success. We look forward to next year making the Luau bigger and better!”
Sandra and Lou invite Molloy parents to join the Parents’ Guild, where they can contribute to its mission to increase parental presence and impact at school. Parents’ Guild members also have the opportunity to volunteer throughout the year at a variety of events. If interested, please reach out to Sandra and Lou at parentsguild@molloyhs.org. Thank you to Sandra, Lou, all our Parents’ Guild volunteers, and all who attended the Luau!

Memorial Day: Remembering Molloy’s Heroes
This Memorial Day, we remember all the brave members of our armed forces who gave their lives in the service to and for the protection of others. In a special way, we remember all Stanners who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Molloy thanks the members of its Class of 1963, who have continued their tradition in observation of Memorial Day, donating a floral wreath in honor of their classmate, Private First Class Louis Willett ’63. PFC Willett is a posthumous recipient of the military’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.” He was mortally wounded on February 15, 1967, in Kontum Province, Vietnam, while purposefully drawing enemy fire away from his platoonmates, enabling their safe retreat.
PFC Willett’s actions continues to inspire our community, and we appreciate the Class of 1963 bringing his story to the forefront each year. PFC Willett’s story is an important part of not only Molloy history, but American history, and it is important that we continue to remember him and educate present and future generations of students about his sacrifice.
In addition to the wreath, a bunting and memorial display was placed beneath a plaque honoring those Stanners who gave their lives in the line of duty during the Vietnam War. The plaque, donated by the Class of 1973, honors the memories of Herbert H. Dilger ’60, Charles V. Donohue ’60, Cosmo F. Pacetta ’63, John T. Reilly ’63, Peter M. Roche ’63, PFC Willett, Peter R. Martin ’64, Gerard F. Paulsen ’64, James E. Stolz ’64, John F. Downey ’65, Kevin R. Hoag ’65, and Bruce N. Sweeney ’66. Please join us in prayer for these brave Stanners.

On May 15th, the Class of 1983 hosted an event for “Eighties Stanners” at a Midtown Manhattan locale, Pando 39. A fine time was had by all! Special thanks to Tony O’Shea ’83 for sharing photos.
Congratulations to Rodger Kraft ’75, who recently received his Doctor of Letters in Literature and Writing from Drew University. Rodger’s brother, John Kraft ‘61, and his classmates from 1975, including Tom Borst ’75, Bob Karcher ’75, and Steve Phelan ’75, attended the ceremony to celebrate with Rodger. Congratulations, Dr. Kraft!
Softball Teams Lead Prayer Service Remembering Beloved Teammate
On May 15th, members of Molloy’s JV and Varsity Softball teams gathered in Molloy’s chapel to lead a prayer service in memory of their beloved teammate. Family and friends of Jordan Kenna ’23 filled the seats of the chapel as team members shared joyful memories of Jordan, who impacted her teammates in so many ways throughout their time together at Molloy. Speaking about Jordan, her former teammates told stories about how she made them laugh, how she helped them, and about the wonderful teammate and friend she was. Each of Molloy’s softball players wore special hair ribbons that paid tribute to Jordan, as well as jerseys with a patch featuring Jordan’s name, number, and angel wings. As the service concluded, Jordan’s father, Frank Kenna ’82, was presented with a tribute banner dedicated to Jordan, as well as one of the hair ribbons worn by the team.
Thank you to our softball teams and Coach Lou Santos for organizing what was a beautiful service that celebrated Jordan and her generous spirit. We ask that our community please join us in continuing to pray for Jordan and her loved ones.
