    Habemus Papam!

With great joy, we join fellow Marists and Catholics around the world in celebrating the election of Pope Leo XIV as our new Holy Father. We pray for him as he begins this ministry as the Vicar of Christ and the Bishop of Rome. May he be for us a visible witness of living the Gospel and help heal the many divisions in our world. May he also keep our focus on those living on the peripheries and those who feel marginalized.

In his first words to us, Pope Leo spoke of the peace that is the gift of the Lord Jesus. May God allow him the grace to bring that peace into the lives of so many who need us today. We ask God’s blessings on his journey ahead in leading our Church. --- Marist Brothers USA

This annual Liturgy provides the senior class and their families an opportunity to slow down during a busy time and reflect on how far they have come. During the Liturgy, Fr. Colalella told seniors that although there may be both joy and anxiety about going off to college, they should take comfort in knowing that Jesus is with them throughout their journey.

Several awards were also presented, including the St. Marcellin Champagnat Awards, recognizing outstanding service, and the Pillar Awards, representing each of the five Marist Pillars: Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work, and In the Way of Mary.

On May 19th, members of Molloy’s Science Researc On May 19th, members of Molloy’s Science Research Program showcased their presentations at our annual Science Symposium! Sophomores, juniors, and seniors shared their findings to classmates, family, friends, and Molloy faculty and staff, illustrating their hard work and dedication to Science Research. The event even welcomed alumni who participated in the program as recently as last year, as they came out to show their support for our current students!

Stanners in Science Research conduct original research on any topic they’re interested in. Beginning as sophomores, students first perform literature reviews, then work with a mentor to design their own experiment, and finally perform their own research and present their findings. This year’s Science Symposium featured a huge array of projects, with topics ranging from holography to mitigating pollution to engineering cancer immunity!

Members of the Science Research Program are exposed to incredible opportunities early in their research careers. Niyat said that she always knew she wanted to conduct research, and “liked that she didn’t have to wait until college to do so.” She continued, “I feel like I have a good start as a high school student writing a research paper, and I’ll be more prepared for my science classes in college.” Members of Science Research are also encouraged to publish and compete in outside competitions. Senior Gisele Habibulla ‘25 competed in the New York City STEM Fair, taking third place!

Ms. Mary Mallia, moderator and teacher of our Science Research Program, says that this year’s Science Symposium “went very well,” and she’s immensely happy with the large crowds coming to see her student’s work. She continues, “I’m really proud of all of my students. Everyone did an exceptional job, from the sophomores and juniors with their trifolds to the seniors and their presentations.” Congratulations, Ms. Mallia, and all of our Stanner scientists!

Earlier in May, Molloy’s Catholic Culture Club m Earlier in May, Molloy’s Catholic Culture Club met in our first floor chapel to discuss recent Catholic news and pray the rosary together. Club members discussed the recent Papal Conclave, the appointment of Pope Leo XIV, and how he compares to the late Pope Francis. Joining the club for this meeting were moderator Mr. Kilkelly, Director of Campus Ministry & Marist Mission Mr. Costa, the visiting Director of Marist Ministries Ms. Stacey Baker, and Molloy’s Chaplain Rev. Nicholas Colalella.

Before the group began to pray, senior Cristina Aliperti ’25 distributed rosaries she purchased from the city of Medjugorje during Molloy’s Europe trip over Easter break. She explained that she was thinking of her friends back home and wanted to buy the rosaries in Medjugorje because the city is said to be host to frequent apparitions of Mother Mary. The members of the Catholic Culture Club then shared their intentions – for loved ones, the faithfully departed, the soon-to-be graduating seniors, and for the success of Pope Leo XIV – before beginning the rosary.

Archbishop Molloy High School joins our Catholic Culture Club and Catholics around the world in welcoming Pope Leo XIV and praying for him as he leads our Church with faith and compassion.
On Memorial Day, we pray for all the brave members On Memorial Day, we pray for all the brave members of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to and for the protection of others. Our special intentions are for all Stanners who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Molloy thanks the members of our Class of 1963, who have continued their tradition in observance of Memorial Day, donating a floral wreath in honor of their classmate, Private First Class Louis Willett ’63. PFC Willett was a posthumous recipient of the military’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.” He was mortally wounded on February 15, 1967, in Kontum Province, Vietnam, while purposefully drawing heavy enemy fire away from his platoon mates, enabling their safe exit from the area. You can read PFC Willett's full Medal of Honor citation in the Linktree in our bio.

The legacy of PFC Willett continues to serve as an example of courage and selflessness for our community. Thank you to the Class of 1963 for helping to bring PFC Willett’s story to the forefront each year, as we remember this important part of Stanner and American history.

We also pray for the Stanners who gave their lives in the line of duty during the Vietnam War. A plaque in the halls of Molloy memorializes their names: Herbert H. Dilger ’60, Charles V. Donohue ’60, Cosmo F. Pacetta ’63, John T. Reilly ’63, Peter M. Roche ’63, PFC Willett, Peter R. Martin ’64, Gerard F. Paulsen ’64, James E. Stolz ’64, John F. Downey ’65, Kevin R. Hoag ’65, and Bruce N. Sweeney ’66.

Stanners Volunteer in Belize!

From December 4th-10th, eight students accompanied Campus Ministers Mr. Richard Costa and Mr. Matthew Corrado, along with Director of Sustainability of U.S. Marist schools Mr. Sam King, on an international service trip to Belize! Kristen Mussalli ‘25, Audrey Ward ‘25, Ismael Minchala ‘25, Jernae Castle ‘25, Vanessa Guilfoyle ‘26, Esme Kerr ‘25, Jillian Kahn ‘26, and Juliana O’Keeffe ‘26 traveled to Placencia, Belize to learn about the ecological systems in the area and help with various service projects.

Molloy teamed up with Bold Hope, an Christian organization that connects people from around the world to help engage in service projects. Mr. Costa worked with Bold Hope to plan the trip to Belize and incorporate ecological learning opportunities throughout it to align with the Marist US Province’s focus on taking care of our planet. Mr. Costa, Mr. Corrado, and Mr. King brought our student volunteers to local farms where they took tours and learned about climate change’s effects on planting seasons. Students were also brought to a bee farmer to learn about the importance of bees to pollinate crops, and also participated in beach clean ups. Mr. King shares, “I hope this experience inspired students to fall in love with creation and become advocates for ecological justice in their communities.”

Our students also spent the week helping to complete service projects for the people in the Placencia community. The group helped a primary school build an outdoor assembly area and also helped put up a fence around a church. Esme says working at the elementary school was most impactful to her, because while working, “unexpectedly children came up to us and started giving us hugs and high fives, and it just showed us how welcoming and inviting everyone is.” Jernae noticed that the children and Belizeans “were so connected to nature and the world around them, impacting us to spend the least amount of time on our phones we could.” Juliana said all eight Stanners grew as people because of this trip, becoming more compassionate, grateful, and aware of global challenges. Mr. Costa noted, “Yes, these eight students encountered the Belizeans, but they also encountered each other.”

Stanners Head Into Christmas Break After Celebrating Advent Liturgy & Christmas Cheer Parade

On Friday, December 20th, students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Jack Curran Gym to celebrate Molloy’s annual Advent Liturgies (one welcoming freshman and sophomores, the other welcoming juniors and seniors). Celebrants Fr. Anthony Rosado and Fr. Chris Heanue emphasized the importance of “the whisper,” or the holy spirit within us. They encouraged students to take the time to recognize the distractions around them and put them aside so that they may find God in the simple things. Principal Dr. Darius Penikas closed each Mass by wishing everyone in attendance a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We extend the same to our entire Stanner family: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Later, before the final classes of the day concluded, Assistant Principal Dr. Des Flynn ’97 and Mr. Frank Gambino ’74 led students and faculty – the Christmas Cheer Committee – through all the halls of Molloy as they sang Christmas songs and played instruments. The cheerful songs lifted everyone’s spirits as they prepared to head home for Christmas vacation. Thank you to Dr. Flynn, Mr. Gambino, and the Christmas Cheer Committee for continuing this fun tradition!

Molloy Presents Annual Winter Concerts

This past week, Molloy presented its annual Winter Concerts, featuring many talented Stanner singers and instrumentalists. On Tuesday, December 17th, Molloy’s Junior/Senior Chorus and Mr. Ken Farnum’s MultiQuire (featuring representatives from St. Catherine’s Academy, Fordham Prep, Fordham University, and Molloy) performed a full set of traditional Christmas songs and carols for a packed Ralph DeChiaro Theater. The chorus, of course, was once again directed by Mr. Jim Sheehan ’75. The concert featured songs such as “Jingle Bell Rock” (Bobby Helms), “Let It Snow” (Jule Styne), “White Christmas” (Irving Berlin), “O Holy Night” (Placide Capau), and more! Please enjoy a selection of these performances via the YouTube player below.

On Thursday, December 19th, Molloy’s concert band performed classic and contemporary hits in front of a full crowd in the Jack Curran Gym. This year marked the first for Band Director Mr. Daniel Jones, who joined Molloy’s faculty as its music teacher in September. Mr. Jones’s energy provided an extra spark for Molloy’s band, who followed his lead in delivering a spirited performance! Songs included “Silent Night” by The Temptations, “Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti, “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay, and original arrangements of “Feliz Navidad” and “Little Drummer Boy” by Mr. Jones! Special thanks to accompanist Mr. Farnum for joining us for our band concert as well. Congratulations to all and thank you for two wonderful concerts!

Christmas Toy Drive & Sweater Fundraiser Highlight Spirit of Charity

Campus Ministry has completed a successful Toy Drive! Students were encouraged to bring in new toys, games, baby items, and other gifts for families at The Ronald McDonald House. RMDH helps provide shelter for families with children that are critically ill in local hospitals. This is the second time Molloy students have helped families at RMDH in the past two months. About 400 different items were donated. We thank all students, family members, and alumni who helped spread joy this Christmas by supporting this wonderful drive.

On Thursday, December 19th, students, faculty, and staff showed off their spirit during Molloy’s annual Christmas Sweater Day! Everyone who took part in the dress down went all out, wearing fun, festive Christmas outfits! Each student who participated donated five dollars, with all money raised benefiting the the Marist community in Venezuela.

Members of ASL Club Volunteer to Help DeafBlind Children

Last weekend, six members of Molloy’s American Sign Language Club (ASL) volunteered at The New York DeafBlind Collaborative’s Annual Holiday Learning event, hosted at Lexington School for the Deaf. The students worked at different tables assisting children who are DeafBlind with arts and crafts. They got to put their ASL skills to use and hopefully learned a few new signs along the way!

Thank you to co-moderator Dana McMenamin ’09 for sharing information for this story along with the wonderful photos!

The latter provides tuition assistance to rising seniors who have been in good academic standing, have played at least one sport for all three years at Molloy, and who demonstrate the qualities that Tim Klein personified. This year, the recipients are Samantha Shoule ’26, Colin Sweeney ’26, and Drake Vestal ’26!

Molloy’s new CHSAA Captain’s Club representatives were also announced during the event. These student representatives attend meetings to discuss league policies and make recommendations to keep Catholic values in the CHSAA. Last year’s reps, Aoife Garvey ’25 and Brendan Twomey ’25, passed the torch to Molloy’s 2025-26 reps: Aileen Henning ’26 and Colin Sweeney ’26!

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Jack Curran Outstanding Senior Athlete Award, presented to the top male and female athletes in the senior class. This year’s recipients are swimmer Sean Green ’25 (swimming) and Camille Munoz ’25 (track & field)! Sean has committed to compete on the swim team at the University of Georgia, and Camille has committed to competing in Track & Field at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes and award recipients on an exceptional season!

On May 27th, seniors and their families attended M On May 27th, seniors and their families attended Molloy’s annual Graduation Liturgy at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church.

Congratulations to the Champagnat Award winners: Mackenzie Clarke, Tiffany Esquen, Ana Hernandez, Joseph Hoermann, Jessie-Jaymes Lee, Christopher Leriche, Anabelle Montano, Kristen Mussalli, Michael O’Neill, Olivia Tabeek, and Brendan Twomey.

Congratulations to the Pillar award winners: Moises Bien Nunag (Presence), Ryan Ladd (Simplicity), Jacqueline Capra (Family Spirit), Christina Sbano (Love of Work), and Samuel Hughes (In the Way of Mary).
