    Habemus Papam!

With great joy, we join fellow Marists and Catholics around the world in celebrating the election of Pope Leo XIV as our new Holy Father. We pray for him as he begins this ministry as the Vicar of Christ and the Bishop of Rome. May he be for us a visible witness of living the Gospel and help heal the many divisions in our world. May he also keep our focus on those living on the peripheries and those who feel marginalized.

In his first words to us, Pope Leo spoke of the peace that is the gift of the Lord Jesus. May God allow him the grace to bring that peace into the lives of so many who need us today. We ask God’s blessings on his journey ahead in leading our Church. --- Marist Brothers USA

This annual Liturgy provides the senior class and their families an opportunity to slow down during a busy time and reflect on how far they have come. During the Liturgy, Fr. On May 19th, members of Molloy’s Science Researc On May 19th, members of Molloy’s Science Research Program showcased their presentations at our annual Science Symposium! Sophomores, juniors, and seniors shared their findings to classmates, family, friends, and Molloy faculty and staff, illustrating their hard work and dedication to Science Research. The event even welcomed alumni who participated in the program as recently as last year, as they came out to show their support for our current students!

Stanners in Science Research conduct original research on any topic they’re interested in. Beginning as sophomores, students first perform literature reviews, then work with a mentor to design their own experiment, and finally perform their own research and present their findings. This year’s Science Symposium featured a huge array of projects, with topics ranging from holography to mitigating pollution to engineering cancer immunity!

Members of the Science Research Program are exposed to incredible opportunities early in their research careers. Niyat said that she always knew she wanted to conduct research, and “liked that she didn’t have to wait until college to do so.” She continued, “I feel like I have a good start as a high school student writing a research paper, and I’ll be more prepared for my science classes in college.” Members of Science Research are also encouraged to publish and compete in outside competitions. Senior Gisele Habibulla ‘25 competed in the New York City STEM Fair, taking third place!

Ms. Mary Mallia, moderator and teacher of our Science Research Program, says that this year’s Science Symposium “went very well,” and she’s immensely happy with the large crowds coming to see her student’s work. She continues, “I’m really proud of all of my students. Everyone did an exceptional job, from the sophomores and juniors with their trifolds to the seniors and their presentations.” Congratulations, Ms. Mallia, and all of our Stanner scientists!

Earlier in May, Molloy’s Catholic Culture Club m Earlier in May, Molloy’s Catholic Culture Club met in our first floor chapel to discuss recent Catholic news and pray the rosary together. Club members discussed the recent Papal Conclave, the appointment of Pope Leo XIV, and how he compares to the late Pope Francis. Joining the club for this meeting were moderator Mr. Kilkelly, Director of Campus Ministry & Marist Mission Mr. Costa, the visiting Director of Marist Ministries Ms. Stacey Baker, and Molloy’s Chaplain Rev. Nicholas Colalella.

Before the group began to pray, senior Cristina Aliperti ’25 distributed rosaries she purchased from the city of Medjugorje during Molloy’s Europe trip over Easter break. She explained that she was thinking of her friends back home and wanted to buy the rosaries in Medjugorje because the city is said to be host to frequent apparitions of Mother Mary. The members of the Catholic Culture Club then shared their intentions – for loved ones, the faithfully departed, the soon-to-be graduating seniors, and for the success of Pope Leo XIV – before beginning the rosary.

Archbishop Molloy High School joins our Catholic Culture Club and Catholics around the world in welcoming Pope Leo XIV and praying for him as he leads our Church with faith and compassion.
On Memorial Day, we pray for all the brave members On Memorial Day, we pray for all the brave members of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to and for the protection of others. Our special intentions are for all Stanners who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Molloy thanks the members of our Class of 1963, who have continued their tradition in observance of Memorial Day, donating a floral wreath in honor of their classmate, Private First Class Louis Willett ’63. PFC Willett was a posthumous recipient of the military’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.” He was mortally wounded on February 15, 1967, in Kontum Province, Vietnam, while purposefully drawing heavy enemy fire away from his platoon mates, enabling their safe exit from the area. You can read PFC Willett's full Medal of Honor citation in the Linktree in our bio.

The legacy of PFC Willett continues to serve as an example of courage and selflessness for our community. Thank you to the Class of 1963 for helping to bring PFC Willett’s story to the forefront each year, as we remember this important part of Stanner and American history.

We also pray for the Stanners who gave their lives in the line of duty during the Vietnam War. A plaque in the halls of Molloy memorializes their names: Herbert H. Dilger ’60, Charles V. Donohue ’60, Cosmo F. Pacetta ’63, John T. Reilly ’63, Peter M. Roche ’63, PFC Willett, Peter R. Martin ’64, Gerard F. Paulsen ’64, James E. Stolz ’64, John F. Downey ’65, Kevin R. Hoag ’65, and Bruce N. Sweeney ’66.

Molloy Earns Gold on AP Honor Roll, AP Access Award

The College Board announced that Archbishop Molloy High School has been named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll, once again earning Gold distinction! Molloy earned Honor Roll recognition for the second consecutive year based on criteria that reflect our commitment to increasing our college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

In 2024, 71% of Molloy’s graduating class took at least one AP course, and 59% of all seniors received a score of 3 or higher on at least one of their AP exams, earning Molloy Platinum status in the AP School Honor Roll Metrics College Credit category! “AP gives students an opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program at College Board.

Moreover, Molloy saw a 50.4% increase in its number of AP Scholars in just one year! AP Scholars are students who score a 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. In 2023, Molloy offered 20 AP courses and awarded 105 AP Scholar certificates. In 2024, Molloy offered 24 AP exams and is excited to announce a record breaking 158 AP Scholars!

Additionally, Molloy has been recognized with the 2024 AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses, illustrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.

Assistant Principal Mrs. Maria Cuomo shares, “Earning the AP Gold Honor Roll status and an AP Access Badge highlights Molloy’s dedication to fostering a robust college-bound culture and providing equitable opportunities for all students to engage in AP courses. This recognition not only reflects our success in achieving significant student participation and performance in AP programs, but also enhances our school’s reputation for providing coursework to our families who value academic rigor. Furthermore, it signals to our community that we are dedicated to preparing students for college readiness and success, ultimately supporting their future educational and career aspirations.”

Class of 2028 Continues the Tradition: Freshman Field Day!

The Class of 2028 recently participated in one of Molloy’s most fun traditions: Freshman Field Day! On Friday, September 27th, each freshman homeroom gathered in the Jack Curran Gymnasium to compete for the title of Homeroom Champion! Spirits were high during the friendly competition, as bonds between classmates grew stronger than ever. Freshman Field Day is an important day for first-year students, as the event fosters a strong sense of community and helps students to “break the ice” while making new friends and supporting one another.

The day’s events included basketball knockout, a chess match, races, a balloon relay, the one-minute challenge, and everyone’s favorite main event, the high jump! This year’s freshman class was full of energy, cheering and clapping from the moment field day began until Mr. Klimas announced 1C as this year’s Homeroom Champion! Congratulations to all who participated, won medals, and showed Stanner Spirit!

Activities Fair Showcases Something for Everyone

Each fall, Molloy’s Activities Fair showcases the over 60 clubs and activities available to Stanners! From Book Club, Quiz Bowl, and Model UN, to Sports Media Club, Intramural Sports, and Robotics, students are encouraged to join clubs after school to pursue their interests, make new friends, and become more confident leaders!

On October 1st, this year’s Activities Fair was busier than ever. The Jack Curran Gym was full as Stanners went from table to table, signing up for clubs while watching their classmates and teachers put on entertaining performances on stage. Now that the fair is over, all activities are in full swing, and we’re especially excited for our freshmen to become involved in all Molloy has to offer.

3D Printing Workshop

On Tuesday, October 8th, TJ Fox and Vincent Ruddy from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy visited Molloy to facilitate a 3D printing workshop for Mr. Touzin’s Computer Science & Engineering students. The visitors spoke about how 3D printing machines work, how architecture relates to 3D printing, the different filaments that can be used, and more! Throughout the presentation Mr. Fox and Mr. Ruddy showed off objects they had made with their 3D printer, including helmets inspired by superheroes and video game characters, as well as answered student questions. Thank you for taking the time to visit Molloy and speak to our Stanners!

Stanner Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our latest Stanner Athletes of the Week: Jackie Messer ’25, MJ Sim Jr. ’27, Emma Palacio ’28, and Nico Tolentino ’25!

During the week of 9/23 – 9/29, Jackie scored three goals and had one assist, helping the Girls Varsity Soccer team to two big wins. MJ, a rising bowling star, bowled a perfect 300 game for the second time in his young career, helping Molloy to secure a win in their first team match of the season.

During the week of 9/30 – 10/6, Emma won all three of her singles tennis matches, including an 8-6 victory against the previously undefeated Xaverian. Emma’s outstanding performances helped the Girls Varsity Tennis achieve a 3-1 record during the week. Nico bowled well throughout the week, scoring high games of 242 and 246. Nico’s contributions helped Molloy’s Bowling team remain undefeated to start the year.

More Fall Highlights

Dr. Endy ’68 Completes “Rim to River to Rim” Hike at Grand Canyon

Congratulations to Dr. Bill Endy ’68, who completed the grueling “Rim to River to Rim” hike at the Grand Canyon last month! Dr. Endy, a longtime experienced hiker, has completed several significant hikes at the Grand Canyon within the past few years. Now, at age 74, he has conquered this most challenging hike, which equated to approximately 20 miles! The route he took also included the shorter “Eye of the Needle” side hike.

“It was brutal, but I was able to successfully finish,” said Dr. Endy. “It took me just under 14 hours.” Dr. Endy also admitted this was likely his last “extreme” hike due to his age, but he is nevertheless proud of what he has accomplished.

Part of Dr. Endy’s motivation for completing this hike, as has been the case with his other recent major hikes, is to acquire more followers on his YouTube Channel. If he can reach 1,000 followers on YouTube, he can monetize the channel, pledging that any proceeds from views would be donated to the Jack Gremse ’68 Tuition Assistance Fund at Molloy, which was created in honor of his late friend and classmate. Click the button below to visit and follow his channel!

Archbishop Molloy High School was recently informed of the passing of retired faculty member Mr. Kieran Mullins (November 5, 1937 ~ August 15, 2024). Born in the Bronx, Mr. Mullins attended Holy Cross Elementary School and St. Helena’s High School. He graduated from Marist College and began teaching at Molloy shortly thereafter. At Molloy, Mr. Mullins taught the sciences along with Drivers Ed for over 40 years.

A beloved husband and father, he was described by family as kind, generous, patient, loving, witty, and a gentle soul. He loved retirement and living in Arizona. He enjoyed playing golf, poker with his card buddies, crossword puzzles, and was always looking forward to his next cruise. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He also cherished many fond memories from his time at Molloy.

Please join us in prayer for Mr. Mullins and his family. Let us remember fondly and with appreciation our time spent with him in the classroom, as colleagues, and as friends.

We are saddened to share the passing of James C. Donovan ’66, who passed away on October 2, 2024. James is remembered as a dedicated family man. He enjoyed a long career working with Hughes Network Systems, traveling the world while supervising the installation of high-speed network systems for the Department of Defense. | Click Here for Memorial Page

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Kieran Lynn ’84, who passed away on September 5, 2024 in Glendale, AZ. He is survived by his brother Raymond, Class of ’86.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Doreen Aloizos, beloved wife of Stavros and mother of Kyra ’10.

This annual Liturgy provides the senior class and their families an opportunity to slow down during a busy time and reflect on how far they have come. During the Liturgy, Fr. Colalella told seniors that although there may be both joy and anxiety about going off to college, they should take comfort in knowing that Jesus is with them throughout their journey.

Several awards were also presented, including the St. Marcellin Champagnat Awards, recognizing outstanding service, and the Pillar Awards, representing each of the five Marist Pillars: Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work, and In the Way of Mary.

Congratulations to the Champagnat Award winners: Mackenzie Clarke, Tiffany Esquen, Ana Hernandez, Joseph Hoermann, Jessie-Jaymes Lee, Christopher Leriche, Anabelle Montano, Kristen Mussalli, Michael O’Neill, Olivia Tabeek, and Brendan Twomey.

Congratulations to the Pillar award winners: Moises Bien Nunag (Presence), Ryan Ladd (Simplicity), Jacqueline Capra (Family Spirit), Christina Sbano (Love of Work), and Samuel Hughes (In the Way of Mary).

Congratulations to all award recipients! Thank you to our Junior/Senior Chorus (joined by alumni and faculty!) for leading us in song, and thank you to all who attended the Liturgy!
