    11/8/25 | Stanner Alumni Reunion: Welcoming Classes Ending in 0 & 5

On September 7th, Carlo Acutis was canonized a saint by Pope Leo XIV. In his short life, just 15 years, St. Carlo reached millions of young people around the world with the teachings of the Catholic Church through his creation of websites and social media channels dedicated to evangelization.

Br. Dan O'Riordan '85, US Provincial, shares, "Countless young people re-connected with their faith because of St. Carlo's witness and efforts. This past summer during our Province Pilgrimage to Assisi, we had the opportunity to visit his tomb. It was a profound moment to pray before this young man dressed in jeans and sneakers. I could not help think of all the young people that same age who have come into our lives, as Marists. We have been so blessed and graced to work with amazing young people. Some of my greatest heroes have been so many of those young people who I had the privilege to know. They were truly 'saints' in my life as they so often deepened my faith and were inspiring Pilgrims of Hope to me. Likewise, I can only imagine that St. Marcellin always counted the dying boy, Jean-Baptiste Montagne, as a 'saint' in his own life."

These Liturgies are a meaningful way for students to join in prayer, reflect on their faith, and prepare for the school year ahead. Celebrants Fr. Nicholas Colalella, Fr. Anthony Rosado, and Bishop Robert J. Brennan highlighted the importance of unity, reminding students that each individual is valued, however, they are stronger together.

Bishop Brennan, who celebrated the Senior Class Liturgy, shared with the Class of 2026 that although each and every person in the room has their own individual traits and talents, they matter most when they are put together at the service of one another.

At each Mass, a cross was displayed, filled with the strengths and unique qualities of every member of the class. The cross served as a powerful symbol of how each student is an important part of Christ, as well as the Molloy family.

We are so grateful to Fr. Colalella, Fr. Rosado, Bishop Brennan, and our Liturgy Committee for helping us celebrate this annual tradition of the Liturgies of the Holy Spirit!

Sarah Kuehl ’04 Inducted into GCHSAA Hall of Fame, Shares Inspiring Presentation with Stanners

Congratulations to Sarah Kuehl ’04, who was inducted into the Girls Catholic High School Athletic Association (GCHSAA) Hall of Fame on April 11th! A top multi-sport athlete during her time at Molloy, Sarah played four years of soccer, four years of basketball, and ran track for two years. Sarah was also an exceptional student, as she would speak before her peers at their graduation ceremony in June 2004 as Molloy’s first-ever female Valedictorian. Each year, the GCHSAA recognizes outstanding women who not only made significant contributions to the league as student-athletes, but who also continue on to lead lives of purpose while making a positive impact on our world. Sarah was among nine other esteemed honorees at this year’s ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Sarah returned to Molloy to speak to Stanners about her career journey. After graduating from high school, she attended the US Naval Academy and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. She then served eight years Active Duty as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer, completing sea deployments on the USS Mesa Verde and USS Enterprise as well as tours supporting the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. European Command Joint Logistics. Later, in search of a life change, Sarah joined JPMorgan Chase, and is now the Program Director supporting Chase Wealth Management Investment Operations! She continues to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Active Reserves at the Washington DC Navy Yard.

To end her presentation, Sarah answered an array of questions from students, including why she chose to attend the Naval Academy, what she experienced during Active Duty, how she decided to apply to JPMorgan Chase, and what it means to be a leader.

Congratulations Sarah, and thank you for taking the time to come and speak to our students! Congratulations to all this year’s GCHSAA Hall of Fame inductees.

Marist Brothers Elect US Provincial Team to Support Br. Dan O’Riordan ’85

Marist Brother delegates recently voted to elect the new US Provincial Council members to join Br. Daniel O’Riordan ’85 (Provincial) throughout his second term. This vote took place at the 2024 USA Chapter Meeting earlier this month. Archbishop Molloy High School congratulates the new USA Provincial Council: Br. Sam Amos, Br. Owen Ormsby ’74 (Vice Provincial, second term), Br. Don Bisson, Br. Dominick Pujia, Br. Brian Poulin, and Br. Hank Hammer (second term).

Model UN Attends Conference at NYC Lab School

On Saturday, March 23rd, twelve Stanners and moderator Ms. Hipkin attended the Lab MUNC Model UN conference at the NYC Lab School in Manhattan. Students listened to a talk from a UN historian and then spent the day competing in committees on a variety of topics to practice their public speaking, diplomacy, and research skills with students from ten other local high schools. All delegates did an excellent job, including club president Valerie Savage ’24 winning “Best Collaborator,” club vice president Moises Bien Nunag ’25 winning “Outstanding Delegate,” and Jonathan Anugwo ’25 being recognized with a Verbal Commendation in their respective committees.”

Students Plan Updates to St. Ann’s Courtyard Thanks to Grant

Recently, members of the Laudato Si group received a $2,000 grant from the Marist US Province to build a garden in the Molloy’s St. Ann’s Courtyard. Laudato Si is Pope Francis’ 2015 Encyclical on the moral responsibility humans have to care for the environment and the inseparable relationship between nature and humanity.

Working on this proposal for the past few months, Molloy students have planned four raised garden beds for vegetables and flowers, a drip irrigation system, solar path lighting, a bird bath with a solar powered pump, lots of perennials that will grow and flower each year, and a peace pole.

“We are very grateful to the US Province for supplying the grant and anticipate the garden’s completion by the end of the school year,” said Mr. Richard Costa, Molloy’s Director of Campus Ministry & Marist Mission.

Thank you to Campus Ministry for providing information for this story.

Heather Green-Wresch Presented with Service Award

Congratulations to Ms. Heather Green-Wresch for receiving the Joan Casazzone Service Award at the GCHSAA Hall of Fame ceremony on April 11th! The award is named in memory of Joan Casazzone, former coach, administrator, and President of the GCHSAA. Ms. Green-Wresch is coach of Molloy’s girls and boys swim teams at Molloy, leading this year’s girls team to an undefeated season while winning Coach of the Year as well! She is one of five coaches to receive the award this year. Go Heather!

Molloy’s Newest Team: Boys Varsity Lacrosse!

Molloy is always considering ways to expand its athletics program to meet the interests of its current students. This year, for the first time, Molloy has introduced Boys Varsity Lacrosse! Coached by Mr. Joe Beaudet with the help of Mr. Chris Adamek, the team roster consists of 33 players from all four class years.

The idea to create a boys lacrosse team first popped up earlier this school year. Students, administration, and the athletics department all felt that there was enough interest and talent to officially create the team and compete in the CHSAA B Division. The team mostly plays within this division against four other schools in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocese. Although new, Mr. Beaudet has high hopes for the players on his team. “I think considering that about 90% of the players had never played lacrosse before,” says Mr. Beaudet, “to be considered competitive is a success. The amount of development and progress from December to now is huge.”

The boys are showing high levels of enthusiasm for the season, and are even more excited to play most of their home games at St. John’s University! Mr. Beaudet says he and the boys feel; “fortunate to play on that field, considering St. John’s has a Division 1 men’s lacrosse team.” The team especially enjoys having fellow Stanners come out and support them on game days, so make sure to go and cheer on Molloy’s newest team!

A great time was had by all at Stanner March Madness on March 28th! Proceeds from the happy hour event, held at Austin Ale House, supported the Curran Fund, benefiting future students entering Molloy. Thank you to everyone who attended, the Athletics Department, and a big thank you to NBA legend Kenny Anderson ’89 (@mrchibb) for coming out and supporting the event, the Curran Fund, and Molloy!

Congratulations to Anthony Kerr ’23 (pictured above), who is one of 15 New York City college students to be selected as a 2026 Jeannette K. Watson Fellow! Offered by the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, this three-year program provides student leaders from 12 NYC colleges with “unprecedented personal, professional, and cultural immersions in the United States and abroad.” Fellows enjoy fully-funded summer experiences with leading organizations in NYC, close mentoring, a cohort of supportive peers, and more. Anthony is one of 300 Fellows selected since the fellowship began in 1999. Congratulations, Anthony!

John Hickey ’95 and Brian Butrym ’95 and their team recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their company, Tech 2 Success, a Queens-based IT Consulting & Digital Marketing firm. Congratulations, John, Brian, and team!

Dr. James Lynch ’83 recently bumped into St. Ann’s Academy graduate Jack McConville ’48 at Swing the Teapot in Floral Park – Dr. Lynch’s favorite restaurant. The two chatted about St. Ann’s and Molloy and took a selfie before departing. Thank you for sharing, Dr. Lynch!

We are saddened to share the passing of Fernando DeCarvalho ’85, who passed away on April 5, 2024. Please keep Fernando and his loved ones in your prayers. | Click Here for Memorial Page

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Ruth Kilkelly, mother of English teacher Matthew Kilkelly.

On October 28th, we celebrated the 209th anniversary of St. Marcellin Champagnat's encounter with the dying boy, Jean-Baptist Montagne.  During his visit with the 12 year old Montagne, Marcellin was horrified that the child had no religious education and did not even know of God. After this incident, Marcellin pledged he would dedicate his life to educating as many children as he could and ensure that they felt, "seen, known, and loved." Read more about the story of Champagnat and Montagne.

Fast forward to 2025 and the Marist Institute has kept this pledge by running schools in 82 countries and counting! As a matter of fact, Molloy recently organized a fundraiser for a Marist school in Venezuela. The money raised will go a long way not only for educational needs but for food and other survival needs. If you have a moment, please watch this thank you video by the USA Marist Provincial, Br. Dan O'Riordan '85 with his counterpart in Venezuela. In it, they explain exactly what the work is and how the contributions help make that work happen.

Despite the 209 years from Montagne's death until now, the Marist presence and grace today is true to Marcellin's dream.
